Wizzrobes are magic-using enemies from The Legend of Zelda series that attack Link with different magic attacks. Wizzrobe's name is assumed to be a portmanteau of the words "wizard" and "robe".

[edit] Characteristics

Wizzrobes often wear long robes that covers their body and a pointy hat (or a hood on some occasions); usually their faces cannot be seen, except for the eyes. Most of their incarnations bear a striking resemblance to Black Mages from the Final Fantasy series.

[edit] Appearances

Wizzrobe has been around since the first Zelda title. Although they have under gone a number of changes throughout the years, their attack methods have remained rather consistent.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Wizzrobe made his debut in this game. Orange Wizzrobes disappear and reappear around the room and shoot magic at Link, but only in a straight line. The Blue Wizzrobes move freely around the room and attack whenever Link is in their line of fire. The Blue Ones also have the abilitiy to enter into the doorways of the rooms and to phase across barriers. In this game Wizzrobes wore hooded robes and cast their magic with the aid of a magic rod.
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link: Wizzrobe appeared like a white robed figure. He would appear, shoot a spell at Link, and vanish again. Wizzrobe was invulnerable to sword attacks, and could only be defeated with the Reflect spell. When Link cast reflect, Wizzrobe's magic could be reflected back at it, killing it. Here, Wizzrobes wore white robes with pointed white hoods that covered their faces completely. They also had a red cross where their faces should be.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past: The same as The Legend of Zelda, but with updated graphics. They gained the pointed, wide-brimmed hats they would begin to wear almost consistently and began resembling Black Mages at this point.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening: The same as The Legend of Zelda, but with no tougher form. They are also not affected by the sword and require arrows or bombs to finish off. They can be stunned with a boomerang to give the player a better chance to vanquish them.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask: The Wizzrobes that appear in Majora's Mask are very different in appearance from the others. They have blue skin, zombie-like faces, and wear short robes. Wizzrobe is a miniboss in four areas in the game, including Snowhead Temple and Ikana. They have two attack methods; first they move between warp tiles and shoot blasts of ice or fire then warp to another tile. Second, they have decoys to confuse Link; the real one spins around on one of the warp tiles (his location is the red dot on the map). In this game, Wizzrobe was accidentally spelled with one Z.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons: Same as The Legend of Zelda. Green Wizzrobes would merely sink into the ground leaving only their hat exposed. Red Wizzrobes are stronger and teleport randomly around the room after firing. Blue Wizzrobes were stronger still and acted like blue Wizzrobes in the original game.
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker: The Wizzrobes in The Wind Waker wear bird-like masks, most likely a toucan, they teleport around the room and shoot magic at Link from afar, usually out of reach of Link's sword. Red ones shoot fireballs at Link. The yellow version can shoot fireballs and summon other enemies. Blue ones are similar to the red ones, but more powerful. The miniboss Wizzrobes are like the yellow hooded ones, but more powerful and can summon bigger enemies such as Darknuts, Moblins, even other Wizzrobes. Wizzrobes wear hooded robes and have bird-like features. They also make a unique dinging noise so Link would notice when one popped up and howl once defeated.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures: Same as The Legend of Zelda, but some have the ability to shoot fire and ice, and sometimes suck out your Force Gems. They also have soundclips from The Wind Waker.
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap: Same as Four Swords Adventures. They appeared taller and more slender than their previous appearances and appeared to have long, white beards. Fire Wizzrobes could shoot fire, while Ice Wizzrobes could shoot ice. The Ice Wizzrobe can actually be killed by the Flame Lantern.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: Wizzrobes do not appear in this game but there are enemies in the Palace of Twilight that act similarly (appearing and disappearing, firing magic from a distance, etc.) but are known as "Zant Masks", and look like giant versions of Zant's helmet.
