Michigan rapper Joseph Bruce (better known as Violent J) took a break from the Insane Clown Posse's Joker's Cards to release the Wizard of the Hood EP. This is the solo debut of Violent J. The story is basically that of The Wizard of Oz, only more urban, with plenty of strong drug references. Violent J makes his way through this strange new land to get back to his home, meeting the Scarecrow, who only needs somebody to smoke with, the Tin Man, who wants a gat, and the Lion, who wants some hoes. While this is Violent J's solo album, it does contain most members from Psychopathic Records as other characters in his story.

As the main character, Violent J takes on the role of this story's version of Dorothy, while Monoxide and Jamie Madrox from Twiztid and Blaze Ya Dead Homie assume the roles of the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion. The Anybody Killa has a brief cameo as a guard in the Wizard of Oz's Palace, while Shaggy 2 Dope is this story's Wizard of Oz. In a similar conclusion to the original story, the Scarecrow and Tin Man are made to realise that they had what they wanted all along. The Lion's desire for ladies, meanwhile, is satisfied by the Wizard's "Magic Blunt".

The last two tracks, are merely bonus tracks and not part of Violent J's story. Also note that a limited edition release of the album, which was cased inside of a tin case instead of a jewel case, along with rolling papers, was pressed.

[edit] Miscellanea

  • The name of this EP is named after the popular song "Wizard of the Hood", which was taken from the tape Intelligence and Violence, originally titled "Wizard of Delray". That version is the first known recording of the song. It was re-recorded with different lyrics for the Dog Beats tapes/albums and then slightly remixed with a different ending for the Insane Clown Posse debut album, the Carnival of Carnage, again titled "Wizard of the Hood".
  • About 24 seconds into the song "Intro", the Electric Guitar riff from Guns N' Roses song Sweet Child O' Mine can be heard for about 2 seconds. 'Blaaam!!!, hot wings', part of the Insane Clown Posse song "Blaaam!!!" can be heard about 2 seconds after that.
