"With the River's Flow" (「川の流れに」 Kawa no Nagare ni?) is episode 38 of the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series originally aired 2004-07-03.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

After wrecking the tractor that Winry stole for them, Edward and Alphonse have arrived at a town after a long walk. They separate after getting into an alchemy-enhanced argument about what they should do next. Winry and Sheska meet again while visiting the grave of Brigadier General Hughes, and Sheska shares her off-the-wall theories about the General's death. While searching for Ed (and grousing about what he really wanted to tell him, that they will have to confront the Homunculus they unwittingly created from their mother) Al bumps into Marta, who has been following them. She wants help in her vengeance upon the other Homunculi (and, most poignantly, on Kimblee) for the deaths of Greed and her fellow chimeras, but Al won't have any part of a vendetta. Winry and Sheska attract Sloth's attention while eavesdropping on her phone line, and Sloth almost kills them before they are rescued by Ross and Brosh. Winry realizes that Sloth resembles Trisha Elric, Ed and Al's mother. Remembering how Al used to go off by himself to the river's edge whenever they argued as youngsters, Ed finds Al at the town's river. They agree that their first priority is to stop Scar. Marta conveniently arrives with some transportation for them.

[edit] Trivia

  • In the scene where Sheska passes Winry a name list containing Juliet Douglas's name in it, it clearly shows that the name above it, George Handel, is coincidentally the name of the famous late German composer, George Frideric Handel.
