[edit] How to deal with Poles ;-)
Hello,
meta:How to deal with Poles was written by a Polish Wikipedian as a tongue-in-cheek answer to the attitude you try to fight. Discuss with sensible people, don't waste your time for morons and generally take it easy (Wikistress).
Regards,

Witam,

Naramiennik wędrowniczy (NIE PAGON!) to tradycyjne oznaczenie przynależności do wspólnoty wędrowniczej.

Poczytaj tu: [1] Szumyk 15:58, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bf-109
Bf-109 has reported that you are "vandalising" his page on WP:AN/I.
If you suspect Bf-109 of being a sockpuppet, the proper procedure is to put up a {{sockpuppet}} tag, or report it to W:AN/I and set out your evidence. If the admins adjudge that your suspicions are correct, then the blocks will follow. Otherwise, the revert war you are engaging in is pretty useless. --khaosworks (talk• contribs) 15:51, August 13, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] anti-Polonism
- (Not to make it too long - when you were writing about Czechs you ment that Chechs had invaded Zaolsie when Poles had been fighting with bolsheviks? As far as Wilno is concerned, you ment that Pilsudski had united Wilno with Poland when it had been inhabited by 1.5% of Lithuanians?)
Note that I added in parentheses in both cases that it is independent of whether it was right or wrong. And yes, I admit Czechs' action in 1919 was deeply unfair. And yes, I admit, Pilsudski defended in this way Polish rights in Wilno at that point of time.
Let me also point out that Polish-Lithuanian international relations between WWI and WWII were very difficult and it is atributed in many history Polish handbooks to the Pilsudski action (of course this was not the only reason).
As for the Czech, case. In 1938 Zaolsie was recaptured by Poland during a period of time in which Czechoslovakia was destroyed by Hitler which is very much comparable to the example you gave. And of course, 1919 events caused a certain deal of Polish anti-Czechism while 1938 events caused a certain deal of Czech anti-Polonism. You cannot deny that we Poles are laughing at many Czech phrases (like 'zavazadlovy kufr', 'jit dozadu' and so on). Similarly, Czechs often privately express that we Poles are less civilized and have very rude language (for instance 'szukać').
And of course all cases of anti-Polish hatred and sentiment should be condemned. Alx-pl 09:11, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your links. They are very helpful. Remember however that we want to achieve NPOV which means we have to take into account other POVs in descriptions. It doesn't mean we have to be less bold in stating our POV, but we have to discuss it with others and take into account their POVs. This, in particular, means we should not alienate people we discuss with. In particular, we should discuss German anti-Polonism with Germans, Russian with Russians and so on. A text which is a result of such a discussion can really be called neutral. A text which is based solely on Polish sources and which is edited solely by Polish editors is just a Polish POV. Let's see what can be a result of such an attitude in case of Rudi Pawelka. I hope you will help to keep all the content which is important from Polish POV, but note that there must be a certain deal of content which represents the German POV. Alx-pl 19:30, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
You just put Antipolonismus into Google and you can obtain as a result an article like this which is an evidence that Germans or at least German speaking citizens of Switzerland (this requires verification) recognise that there is German anti-Polonism (I guess Philipp Ther is German). Although we must read the article carefully to add text to the article. Remember, we must also keep balance. Alx-pl 20:40, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
Hello, Witkacy, after discussing on its talk page, I've been looking at the latest changes the protected article Anti-Polonism has gone through. To my great astonishment I found out that the wikipedian who kept reverting my changes without telling me why, was noone active on the talk page. It was you. So before the protection expires I'd like you to tell me where and especially why you disagree with my change, if you still disagree with it. By doing so we can discuss it and settle our differences without having problems again as soon as the article's protection is over. Thank you in advance.NightBeAsT 20:42, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

Jeszcze jeden przykład do zbadania Strasbourg/Straßburg. Gdzie jest ta dyskusja o ponowieniu głosowania o Gdańsku? Alx-pl D 12:09, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Abuse of Admin rights by Chris 73
I have blocked you for 24 hours for disrupting Wikipedia. You have repeatedly removed double naming from articles against community consensus. The last instance was Georg Forster [2]. As per Talk:Gdansk/Vote, there was a more than 2/3rd majority for double naming, both for Gdansk and for the cities with a shared history in general. There was also a more than 2/3rd majority for biographies of German people to have the order German/Polish (and vice versa for Polish people). You are very well aware of this vote, and even you yourself said that a 2/3rd majority is good enough for consensus. I also have warned you again on your talk page (which you kindly removed [3]) Hence I block you for disrupting Wikipedia for repeatedly and over the span of multiple months going against community consensus. I fully expect you to bitch on any noticeboard and talk page you can get a hold of, feel free to do so. On an unrelated side note, please do not revert my talk page. Also, you can still edit your talk page. -- Chris 73 Talk 14:17, September 3, 2005 (UTC)
- Thats abuse of Admin rights. First of all you should know that "users should not block those with whom they are currently engaged in conflict". I have not committed any violation of the Wikipedia policy. --Witkacy 14:40, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Blocking policy: Disruption
- Sysops may, at their judgement, block IP addresses or usernames that disrupt the normal functioning of Wikipedia. Such disruption is to be objectively defined by specific policies, and may include changing other users' signed comments or making deliberately misleading edits.
- You have changed names of Polish cities to German ones, and i reverted you. So tell me please, according to what policy did you blocked me?--Witkacy 14:56, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
- As far as Chris73's actions are concerned, he left the article cited above (Georg Forster) with both the Polish and German forms of the name (Diff). Witkacy, from what I can see, was insisting on removal of the German form, leaving the Polish version only (Diff 1, Diff 2). The block seems legitimate under the Gdansk decision. To avoid any appearance of impropriety, I have removed Chris73's block, and placed my own for the remaining 23 hours. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 15:31, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

- The block seems legitimate under the Gdansk decision.
- Under which rule of the Wikipedia policy?--Witkacy 19:59, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
-
- unblocked and reblocked Witkacy for 23 hours as a (hopefully) neutral third party to the dispute [4]
- neutral third party? I dont believe you are neutral, Chris 73 asked you - per email? - for help, that's all. However, Im still waiting for the answer, which rule I violated.--Witkacy 20:15, 3 September 2005 (UTC)

-
- I'm afraid you are mistaken. Chris 73 never emailed me, and as far as I know, I've never had any contact with him prior to my renewal of his block. Further, I have never been involved in the apparently contentious disputes surrounding the use of Polish versus German city names. I posted a note about the block at Wikipedia:Account suspensions immediately after I placed it because I felt that its potentially controversial nature might warrant further review.
- Wikipedia:Blocking policy allows administrators broad discretion to block editors whose behavior–in the admin's judgement–is disruptive to Wikipedia's smooth functioning. By removing entirely reference to the German names of the cities in question, you took an action which a reasonable editor (and veteran of the Gdansk/Danzig debates, especially) should understand would be inflammatory. I personally am not bothered over whether the German or the Polish name should come first in Georg Forster's article, though it would seem that cooler heads have been able to reach some sort of compromise on the talk page. Hi Witkacy. Double naming has been supported by more than 2/3rd of the votes, which is enough even by your standards. Since you still insist on going against community consensus, I block you again for disrupting Wikipedia. German nationalistic POV pushing and stalking by Chris [5]--Witkacy 10:18, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
- Witkacy, Chris 73 is 'stalking' you because you're repetitively engaging in the same disruptive behaviour. The pattern of edits in your contributions list is pretty distinctive. You are welcome to use Wikipedia's dispute resolution methods to try to come to some peacable compromise. It is not acceptable to carry on with the same edits–removal of German forms of city names from articles where both Polish and German names appear–and to expect admins to ignore you while you do something that (if ignored) would restart a lot of unproductive and outright destructive edit wars.
- After your block ends, I would encourage you to follow the example of User:Lysy. He has kept a cool head, and achieved what seem to be reasonable compromises on a number of pages that have experienced naming conflicts. It is possible to discuss these matters calmly and rationally, without edit warring and without impugning the motives or character of your fellow editors. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 13:13, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
- "Welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.."
- I will repeat myself, but according to the rules on Wikipedia, edits like that [6] dont disrupt wikipedia - the name of the city is Gdańsk (and German POV pushers like Chris and his little fellow Nighbeast should live with that) Its a compromise to use the German name from 1795 until 1945, but pushing the German name for time periods when the city was part of Poland is unacceptable.
- You can justify his abuse of admin rights, but i have not broke any official wiki-rule.
- Thanks for you comment, Chris again asked you for help... [7]--Witkacy 14:14, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
-
- Actually, that's the first time that Chris 73 contacted me, presumably because I had involved myself in your first block. You will note that that comment was in relation to your second block on this issue, not the current (third) one. In all cases, I posted my comments regarding the blocks on the appropriate high-visibility pages (the administrator's noticeboard and the account suspensions log) where they could be readily reviewed by other Wikipedians (and in particular, other admins who might choose to undo the block if I or Chris 73 had grievously erred.)
- I strongly encourage you to stop edit warring and engage in discussion. There is a reasonable argument to be made, and there are reasonable people out there to hear it. Calling people names, removing German city names without comment, and shouting admin abuse don't help to resolve the issue. Quite frankly, I don't think it is possible to immediately solve this problem, and I would counsel patience. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 15:18, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
-
- strongly encourage you to stop edit warring
- stop to reverting POV?.. (bad idea..)
- and engage in discussion
- Discussion about what? The name of the city is Gdańsk. United Nations map of Poland[8], official website of Gdańsk [9]...
- "shouting admin abuse don't help to resolve the issue"
- Admins who abuse their powers should be banned. I wonder that until now such rule was not created. My blocks are a nasty example how admins abuse their powers for POV pushing.
- Fiat iustitia, ruat coelum ! :)--Witkacy 16:22, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
-
- (P.S. User:Nightbeast vandalised and violated the 3RR on my talk page - needs to be blocked)--Witkacy 16:22, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
-
-
- If you're talking about the edits like this one, it looks like he was removing remarks that he thought were a personal attack. I can see how Nightbeast might have found those comments insulting. Further, characterizing the edits as 'vandalism' is factually incorrect and might itself constitute a personal attack. (There is a formal description of what constitutes vandalism at Wikipedia:Vandalism.) While Nightbeast has not been a paragon of good faith and calm discussion in this dispute, it is not helpful to bait him.
-
-
-
- As for 'reverting POV', substituting your preferred point of view for someone else's doesn't resolve anything; it simply perpetuates an edit war. Use the talk pages and RFC to discuss NPOV. Engaging in drive-by reversion without discussion just makes it easier for people to dismiss your opinion. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 16:50, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Boze Igrzysko
Witkacy, I understand your annoyance with calling the city Danzig during the centuries when it was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Unfortunately, that appears to be the norm in English language historiography. Even Norman Davies, one of the most renowned writers on Polish history generally considered very sympathetic to Poland, uses the German name Danzig during this period in his magisterial work God's Playground: A History of Poland. So, please, please stop removing the German name. Balcer 18:48, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
"God's Playground" is not an encyclopedia! Britannica calls the city Gdansk throughout the ages, even Free City of Gdansk. Space Cadet 20:57, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- "God's Playground" is widely acknowledged to be the best history of Poland available in the English language. It is "better" than Encyclopedia Britannica! The fact that it uses Danzig suggests that name should at minimum be mentioned in Wikipedia articles dealing with that period. Witkacy's attempts to eradicate any mention of it at all are unjustified, to say the least. Balcer 21:36, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
-
- Like I said... Wiki is an encyclopedia, not a story book like "God's Playground". It's not a history book either. Space Cadet 21:48, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Władysław Krzysztof Grabiński
Presumably there is enough information about why Władysław Krzysztof Grabiński should be an aticle in Wikipedia, but there's nothing in the article to justify that. Being a Polish noble in the post-1921 era is not notable enough in my opinion to warrant an article, and there is nothing in the article to indicate why of the various people involved in the Warsaw Uprising, he was notable. Since you went to the effort to also add a picture to that article, I'm presuming that you have access to such information. However, if the article isn't improved soon, I'll be sending it to AfD. Thanks for uploading Image:Lilijka zhr z napisem.gif. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. [edit] one contributor
Czesc, Witkacy! Just wanted to point this out: Wikipedia contributor Kuban coSSack's talking about dictatorial ruler Lukashenka (who massively and monstrously falsified the vote) and today's storming of the October square, when hundreds of special police arrested peaceful demonstrators, totally destoryed the camp, threw empty vodka bottles into the mess and videotaped that for Belarusan state television. Here's Kuban coSSack's comment about this police action and break-up of a peaceful protest, which took place at 3AM so that there would be no witnesses of their activity:

Dear fellow Wikipedians, do you understand that the only purpose of his contributions on articles about Belarus (such as Belarusian language, Belarusian history, Belarus, etc.) is to push Russian imperial POV and lies? Please, see history and talk pages of the Belarus-related articles. --rydel 16:37, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Rycina 1752 Palac Branickich.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Rycina 1752 Palac Branickich.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Gryffindor 20:46, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Sejm sala obrad.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Sejm sala obrad.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.
Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 04:06, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Apolonia Ustrzycka.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Apolonia Ustrzycka.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Untagged image
An image you uploaded, Image:OrzelekPrzemysla.jpg, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 16:48, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Parasolka n.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Parasolka n.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
