[edit] Overview

The GMV (Guaranteed Music Variety) format was launched in early 2006 on KDAL in Duluth, MN. The format was created by Midwest Communications' GM Jeff McCarthy in his office. He spent hours in his office working on the format. The format has since spread throughout the Midwest on several Midwest Communications owned stations.

In February of 2006, WZBY in Green Bay debuted as 99.7 The Bay. Since WZBY's previous rhythmic CHR format shared automation logs (liners and stopsets were different) with sister WOFM in Wausau it would seem obvious that WOFM would flip to the GMV format as well. For about a month WOFM ran on its own.

In March of 2006, WOFM-FM Wausau and its translator W275AC (102.9) flipped to GMV as "94.7 The Peak." At this time, WOFM was once again sharing automation logs with WZBY. This can be determined by listening to both stations at the same time (songs, liners, stopsets would be scheduled at the same time)

In the summer of 2006, WIZD in Rudolph (Stevens Point area) began simmulcasting with WOFM again under the name "The Valley". WIZD had previously simmulcasted oldies with WOFM from the 90s until the fall of 2005 when WOFM flipped to Rhythmic CHR.

For a period, The Valley was running its own automation logs but has since returned to sharing logs with WZBY.

[edit] Presentation

There are no liners/imaging except at the top of the hour when a voice guy says "You're hearing a different kind of radio station (xylophone sound effect) W Z B Y (tone) 99.7 The Bay" (or The Valley) at the top of the hour. Midwest's other "Guaranteed Music Variety" stations are the same. Chuck Lakefield came up with this presentation back in 99.7's AC days to reduce clutter.

A typical GMV hour:
