Beta 2.0 has started January 1st 2005. Initially the approximately 68.000 signed up beta testers were planned to be granted access right away, but Mutable Realms decided to do the "release" of this beta test in stages. In small samples of up to 10.000 accounts per day, people have since been given access to the game. The game servers were not able to withstand the onslaught of players and within the first few days, crashed multiple times.

The official cancellation message:

Dear friends of Wish:

Unfortunately we have bad news.

After careful consideration of all the facts and analyzing all the data which we have gathered from the Wish Beta 2.0 test so far, we have decided to cancel the Wish project.

Our Beta test will end this evening at 6pm EST, and at this time our Beta forums will close as well.

We enjoyed working together with our fans very much, and we are very sorry about this development. We wish you the best of luck in the future, and hope that you continue to enjoy online gaming, even with Mutable Realms and Wish not being available anymore.

We also wish the best luck to our competitors, and hope that they will not suffer the same fate as us.

Best regards, Your Mutable Realms Team

And the message as sent to the fansite managers:

Hello,

You have been one of the most dedicated Wish fan site managers, and I would like to thank you for all your support and help.

The canellation of Wish was a very tough decision to make. I don't want to get into the details at this point, but let me just say that even with the most optimistic projections, we could not possibly get enough subscribers for Wish so that it could sustain itself.

Again, thank you for all your help and support over the last years. I really enjoyed working together with you.

Best regards, Marc -- Marc Laukien Mutable Realms, Inc. http://www.mutablerealms.com
