"Wire" is the third track on U2's 1984 album, The Unforgettable Fire. Described by Bono as the "hypodermic needle of the album", it features a fast-paced rhythm section and The Edge's classic ringing guitar sound. Bono reaches one of the highest notes in his singing career in this song, in the line "Cold man, such a cold heart".

"Wire" made its live debut when it was played as the first song at U2's 17 September 1984 concert in Melbourne. This was the only time the song opened a concert, and only one of two instances that a song from The Unforgettable Fire actually opened a show on the Unforgettable Fire Tour [1]. "Wire" was played regularly in the first half of the main set at Unforgettable Fire Tour concerts, but it has not been played since the end of that tour. Its last performance was on 7 July 1985.
