Winthrop is a small town in Warren Township, Warren County, Indiana, platted by farmer Jacob Morgan Rhode on March 3, 1884. A north/south line of the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad served the town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but virtually no trace of the route now remains. Rhode died 8 February 1919.

Winthrop is located at 40°22'12" North, 87°14'02" West (40.370000, -87.233889), at an elevation of approximately 680 feet. The West Fork of Kickapoo Creek flows to the west and south of town.
