Winston Prepararory School is a co-ed day school located in New York City. It provides education for 6th through 12th grade students with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities, expressive or receptive language disorders and attention deficit problems.
The school is named after Sir Winston Churchill, and many of the school's initiatives are reminiscent of Churchill's steadfast policies.
The teaching staff is comprised of formally educated individuals. Many of whom attended such schools as Harvard, MIT, Brown University, and Yale.
Winston's curriculum is relatively lax in comparison to that of New York's other private schools. For instance, foreign launagues are not taught and topic specific classes are nonexistent. A great amount of emphasize is placed upon progression rather than end result.
[edit] Focus Program
Winston has utilized what it calls its Focus Program for eight years, which has been largely successful. Each student receives a daily period of one-to-one instruction concentrating on his or her greatest area of need. In essence it can be viewed simply as a private tutoring session with stated goals and benchmarks.
