Winnona Park Elementary

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Winnona Park Elementary School opened in the U.S. Winnona Park Neighborhood of Decatur, Georgia on September 17, 1923, housing grades 1 through 7. Growth and enrollment grew at an incredible pace from 1940–1960, causing double sessions to be held from 8AM to 12PM and from 12:30 to 4:30. For a brief period in the 1960s, grade 7 attended Decatur Junior High School, while Winnona hosted grades 1 through 6. Recently though, grades 4 and 5 have been relocated to Glenwood Academy. Currently the school enrolls grades 1 through 3 and kindergarten. Recent renovations have updated the cafeteria, added a new wing, expanded the auditorium and added a covered pavilion behind the building. There have been two fires, one in 1959 and 1975, both of which failed to do any major damage.
