Winnipeg minor basketball

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Winnipeg Minor Basketball Association (WMBA) is a Community Club based basketball league located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The Fall / Winter league is open to boys and girls ages 6-18 and the Spring league to ages 7-18. There are no ‘tryouts’ for club basketball as we make as many teams in the area based on the number of players who register.

The league offers both a Fall / Winter league which runs October through March and a Spring League from April to June. Registration for each run in September and March respectively at participating community centres in the greater Winnipeg area. The Club league holds its games weekends (traditionally teams ages 12 and under play Saturdays and ages 13+ run Sunday afternoons) along with one practice during the weeknights.

The WMBA is a city-wide league, so teams will be competing against other teams from around the city. Attempts are made to keep games in a central location fair to all teams in the program. Age divisions are set roughly every 1 to 2 years and teams ages 8 and under play coed and teams ages 9+ play in separate boys and girls leagues.

An elite tryout based 'District' program is also offered to ages 13-17 in the spring and 12-14 in the fall / winter.
