Wings of Fury is an action game with some minor simulation aspects, in which you are the pilot of an American F6F Hellcat plane aboard the USS Wasp. The setting of the game is the Pacific during World War II.
It is the goal of the player to defeat the Japanese by destroying enemy bunkers, turrets and barracks on a series of islands and killing all the enemy soldiers either with bombs or machine guns. The player also have to sink Japanese battleships, destroyers, and aircraft carriers. The weapons to complete these objectives are: bombs, rockets, and torpedoes.
The player start each mission by taking off from an aircraft carrier, which he/she has to protect from attacks by Japanese planes. When the player runs out of fuel or ammunition he/she can replenish them both by returning to the carrier.
The original Apple II version was programmed by Steve Waldo and released in 1987 by Brøderbund. It was ported in 1990 to Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Amiga and PC-DOS, and in 1999 to Game Boy Color.
