Wingnuts is a critically acclaimed arcade style action game series for the Macintosh. It is developed by Freeverse Software. The game features gameplay similar to shoot 'em ups such as Galaga, but differ in that the player may rotate the ship, and travel in any direction.

Two games were released in the series, each containing 30 levels wherein the player must destroy all enemies on the board to advance to the next level. Most of the enemies' aircraft are historical, ranging from the 1920s to the future.

[edit] Wingnuts: Temporal Navigator

The original in the series, Wingnuts: Temporal Navigator introduced the main villain, Baron Von Schtopwatch (a play on the word stopwatch), who invented a time machine to bring back squadrons of WWI fighter planes to take over the world. Each level contains fleets of airplanes from a specific time period, which the player must eliminate, followed by a giant version of one of the planes. As the levels progress, so does the year from which the planes are from.

[edit] Release as a free download

As of November 26, 2006, Freeverse released Wingnuts: Temporal Navigator as a free download for anyone with a compatible Macintosh computer. The president, Ian Lynch Smith said, "The original Wingnuts is a great game, and we're very pleased to be giving it away to Mac users everywhere. We've had a great year, and we just want to say a big thanks for all the support we've gotten from the Mac community".
