Winger
1988 |
In the Heart of the Young
1990 |
Winger was the debut album of the American glam metal band Winger. The album was released by Atlantic Records in 1988 and it was produced by Beau Hill.
The music was radio friendly pop metal, but with a progressive twist that also showcased the band's musical talent. The lyrics, however, were typical of the age and genre.
It produced a number of radio and video hits, including "Headed for a Heartbreak" and "Seventeen", peaking at #19 and #26 at the Billboard's single chart. The album itself peaked at #21 at the album chart and achieved platinum status in the United States and went gold in Canada and Japan.
In support of the album Winger toured for over a year with bands like Bad Company, Scorpions, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Poison, Skid Row and Tesla.
The track "Higher and Higher" was available only on the CD version of the album.
There are videos for the songs "Madalaine", "Hungry", "Seventeen", and "Headed For A Heartbreak".

[edit] Miscellanea
The band was originally called Sahara, but they were forced to change it at the last moment, as some other band owned the right to that name. Alice Cooper then suggested the name Winger and the band went for it. The original name still appears on the bottom of the right corner of the debut album's cover.
