Wingate is a village in County Durham, England
Wingate is a growing village, with a mixture of 19th-century, post-war, and new houses. It is in the South East of County Durham, three miles south west of Peterlee, and seven miles north west of Hartlepool. It has excellent links to transport networks for commuters with the A181 leading west towards Durham and the A1 to Newcastle and Darlington and leading east towards the A19 to Peterlee, Sunderland and Teesside. The village has pretty high social problems, in common with many districts in the area, such as a high teenage pregnancy rate, a high crime rate, and a high unemployment rate. It contains the local comprehensive school, Wellfield.
