[edit] Show Format

[edit] Opening

Gary usually starts his show with an enthusiastic opening 'HELLO AND WELCOME TO WINE LIBRARY TV!!!' Sometimes the show he records after a NY Jets loss will start with a very depressed and subdued opening line, however. Also, Gary often takes pains to make sure that people know how to properly pronounce and spell his long last name, Vay-Ner-Chuk (not Chuck).

[edit] Tasting

Gary normally tastes four wines per episode Monday through Thursday and one on Friday. He gives his impression of the wine and rates the wine using a score on the 100 point scale (although most wines score between 80 and 100[1]). The tasting notes are recorded in spreadsheet format by one of the viewers and are available on the site.

[edit] Vayner-isms

Gary displays a number of mannerisms and phrases on WLTV

  • VaynerClank: Gary clanks his teeth together after drinking the wine. It's not a good sign.[2]
  • VaynerNod: Gary nods his head in approval while tasting the wine. This is usually a very good sign.[3]
  • VaynerChuckle: Gary laughs a little while tasting the wine.[4]
  • VaynerBrow: Gary raises and lowers his eyebrows dramatically while tasting the wine.[5]
  • VaynerTap: Gary often taps corks on the desk while tasting the wine.[6]
  • VaynerQuote: Gary will make air quotes to emphasize a word that gets to a point in describing a note or anything else for that matter.[7]

[edit] Question of the Day

Each episode ends with a Question of the Day (QOTD) where Gary asks his viewers their opinion on a random topic. This may be wine related or something silly like 'What is your favorite color?'.

[edit] Tagline

Gary's final line of the show has changed over time. The line he has used the most is 'Because YOU and [or 'with'] just a little bit of me, we're changing the wine world. Aren't we?'.

[edit] Vayniacs

Regular viewers of the show call themselves Vayniacs. Hardcore fans can purchase "Vayniac" t-shirts on the Wine Library site.

[edit] Notable Moments

[edit] How Does Weather Affect Wine?

In this episode Gary tastes four wines outdoors during a winter storm. He wears a short sleeve shirt during the episode. Wine glasses slide across the table as the wind blows[8].

[edit] Training Your Palate

In this episode Gary samples a number of unusual items including rock and dirt[9].

[edit] Accolades

The show has won several awards including: Best Wine Podcast or Videoblog in the 2007 American Wine Blog Awards[10].
