Windows Language Interface Pack

Windows XP LIP (Language Interface packs) are generally written on top English language version of Windows XP. Microsoft has released several LIPs include Tamil and many other languages. Microsoft checks your Windows is genuine while downloading and installing. This double check is to make sure that you can download the LIP from a licensed computer and also can install it on a licensed computer.

[edit] LIPs for Indian Originated Languages
For all the Indian originated languages LIPs are written on top of English version of Windows XP. Except Hindi all other languages require Windows XP service Pack 2 while Hindi can be installed with Windows XP Service Pack 1.
- Hindi: ta:ஹிந்திThis is the first Indian LIP for Windows XP. Released on 11 நவம்பர் 2003. Windows XP Service Pack 1 is a must. Download

We look at Tamil LIP as a typical example. Other languages are quite similar, except the file size which vary in size depending on the language. For Tamil LIP for Windows XP is named LIPSetup.msi and file size is 6.6MB.
- Read and Accept the licence agreement
- Note for Tamil they have mentioned that the computer should have Windows XP Service Pack 2. Although it depends on the language it generally demands service pack2.
- Window confirms that you will be installing on the above mentioned machine.
- Once Installed successfully this window will popup
- Reboot your computer

- Windows XP has now changed to the LIP language (Tamil in this case).
- The control panel is localised.
- When you right click My Computer you will see the options in the LIP language.
- When you right click the Desktop you will also see the options in LIP language.
- Dialog boxes will also be displayed in the LIP language.
