WinMXGroup[1] is one of the groups involved in the "resurrection" of WinMX after it was shut down on the 20th of September, 2005. The WinMXGroup is known for the 'dll' or 'dill' patch used for re-connecting to the WinMX network. WinMXGroup is not meant to be mixed up with WinMXWorld[2], who provide help for the WinMXGroup patch and WinMX itself.

[edit] How the .dll patch works

The 'dll' patch made by WinMXGroup has a list of around 8 Peer caches used for connecting to the WinMX network. The patch is placed in WinMX's installation folder. When opened, WinMX program will go looking for its orginial Peer caches, but with the modified DNS in the patch, will go looking for these new Peer caches. The patch is also the most popular.

[edit] Features of the patch

  1. Connection to the WinMX network
  2. Filtering of fake files
