WINZ, "AM 940 South Florida's Progressive Talk" serves Miami, Fort Lauderdale, with a daytime signal that reaches as far north as Ft. Pierce, FL and as far west as Ft. Myers and Naples, Fl.

Although WINZ's lineup includes some [Air America Radio]] hosts like Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, most of its line-up includes long time radio veterans not connected with Air America, including Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller (Jones), Mike Malloy (Nova M) and Lionel (WOR). Mornings are live and local with former Miami Herald columnist Jim DeFede hosting, radio veteran Nicole Sandler, producing, and WIOD's Aron Bender adding news updates.

WINZ is affiliated with CNN for hourly network newscasts and includes twice hourly updates from The Weather Channel.

The station signed on in its current format at 1206PM on July 12, 2004. Al Franken's program was the first in the new format. Before this station adopted liberal talk as its format, it was "940 Fox Sports," an all-sports station that competed with WQAM and WAFN.

Currently, WINZ is owned by Clear Channel Communications. Clear Channel purchased the station from West Palm Beach-based media entrepreneur Bud Paxson.
