Talk:Wingin' It
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] General
I put this article on wikipedia, because Wingin' It is a very popular podcast show (that I am not affiliated with). I am trying to give a description of this show so that it lives on in memory (like any other article in the 'pedia). For example, The Tonight Show has a description in the 'pedia. It is an iconic show because its humour and parody are very popular forms of entertainment. Although I do not claim that Wingin' It is as popular as The Tonight Show (yet), it is growing dramatically. I do not have a full description in there yet (because I can only do so much at a time), but hope to get it further fleshed out.

- I know the show you're talking about, but I'm quite surprised the article doesn't start with "Wingin' It is one of the podcasts from the Dragonpage hosted by...". Get the basic information out of the way before you describe details like the segment in which listeners send them beer. By the way, I think making an entry on the dragonpage itself or the hosts may be a better idea. You'd be able to create a bigger and better article and people would get the big picture, rather than one of their many podcasts. - Mgm|(talk) 18:19, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Wingin' It is not actually under the Dragon Page umbrella. It is a seperate podcast that happens to be hosted by the same people. I hear you about the way I wrote it (poorly) and hopefully now it has a better start so that it is something that can be improved upon. I agree that an article on Michael and Evo et al would be really good. Someday when I have time I might actually get around to it. Maybe somebody will beat me to it. --Hvanbrug 06:38, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
There is a stub for Farpoint Media which is the umbrella over all of these podcasts. I wish they'd put more information on the Farpoint homepage than just the list of podcasts, but there's nothing I can do about that one. As for this article, I think it would be good if we could include some of the iconic elements of the show on this page (i.e. "The first drink of the day", "Get your Geek Off", "Poetry Slam" (that may be Slice of Scifi, now that I think about it). Sort of a general table of contents of an episode, even though it is much less structured than Cover to Cover and Slice of SciFi. I also think it would be good to give a listing of some of the neologisms created on the show and a general definition. Sadly, I lost the fight to defend the Mennengasia article, thought I knew that it probably wouldn't hold up enough to be a stand alone. It would be suitable to include it here along with things like Terranary, Karenary, etc. Take a look at the writeup on Howard Stern. I think we could follow a bit of that formula with the sections like "Frequent Show Games and Bits" and "Common Show Saysings and Sounbites". Ultimate ed 16:37, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Events
I've made a start, so let's get it roling. Obviously, the recent pool party is a major event in the history of the show. If you can think of any other high points worth noting, add them to the list. Also, whoever has the date the show first was published, pleasd update the entry as that is certainly a major event in the show's history. Ultimate ed 13:49, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Notability?
I've tagged the article today questioning its importance. Yes, it's a podcast. Yes, some people like it. What are the verifiable points that make it notable for Wikipedia?? Let's have a better article. --Mereda 11:51, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- The show boasts at least several thousand listeners according to libsyn. For it's first year of existence, it didn't even have a Podcast Alley entry, so most of those listeners picked it up from being listeners to the other Farpoint Media shows. These elements alone are enough to qualify as important, according to the wikipedia criteria. I will agree that this and all the Farpoint articles need to be expanded. I'm contributing as best I can. - Yes, the show is popular, but it's not THAT popular. The article seems to be straying away from the typical tone of Wikipedia articles in favor of something I'd find on Uncyclopedia. We don't need to make a mountain of of a hill. Albeit a fairly big hill. Shadow1 18:27, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
