Talk:Windows box

Nothing links to this article, and its not a notable phrase. Seems to fall under Wikipedia:Wikipedia_is_not_a_dictionary#Wikipedia_is_not_a_slang_or_idiom_guide. -- Netoholic 05:09, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I'm surprised by some of the comments here. The article mostly documents the history of the phrase itself. The information about the concept of a "machine running a windowing GUI" is documented elsewhere. I understand that WikiPedians are generally a geeky sort (myself included), but there is no encyclopedic value in keeping this article. -- Netoholic 03:56, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • agree, delete. --Ianb 07:14, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • I seem to remember computers at primary school having a windows box complete with flowers, so that would have been over 10 years ago. Not knowing much more about the history of computing however; this is one for peer review not vfd. Dunc_Harris| 08:59, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Maybe I just have food poisoning, but I'd say keep. The article is a fullish discussion of "windows" as "windowing GUI" as opposed to MS Windows (tm). I would prefer to see, though, some organization of this information into allied -box articles. Geogre 12:31, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep -- Possibly rename to Windows GUI? [[User:Mike Storm|MikeStorm]] 18:56, 5 Aug 2004 (UTC)
    • Sounds good to me. -Sean Curtin 08:02, 6 Aug 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep -- no rename necessary. Windows GUI is not the same thing, since that describes the appearance of software, whereas Windows box is mostly a hardware concept. I think most people of a geeky bent will know what is meant by Windows Box - it's a common enough phrase among such folk. Graham 03:26, 9 Aug 2004 (UTC)
