[edit] Revision wars
There is a large revision war going on when uploading images. I have now placed this admonition to discourage users from uploading and reverting it.
This image has been repeatedly reverted by several users (see below). Anyone uploading this image may possibly trigger a revision war. Such users who do this will be blocked without further warning.

[edit] Reverted
I revert to my version of my screenshot because Meteoroid didn't know without the copyright material if appropriate or not. My reverted screenshot -- of course, it might it is a part of the Microsoft Windows itself (such as a desktop background from Windows Vista). Jigs41793 Talk/contribs 05:14, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- So, every article containing no background does not exist within an operating system? In all honesty, the general point of the program screenshots is to give a visual representation of the program, not excessive information around the program being used. Also, you violated the 3 revision rule. Chris (Talk) (Contribs) 05:20, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Oops, reverted once again...
Sorry, I reverted the image once again to Themodernizer's version by accident. If anybody wants to change it back, they're welcome to do so. — Alex (T|C|E) 10:11, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- I just didn't want to mess with reverting it back, since Themodernizer's version is the one that seems to be accepted by the majority. — Alex (T|C|E) 10:13, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Original screenshot
The original screenshot is preferable to one that incorporates an album not included by default in Windows XP. Themodernizer 13:46, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks for clearing that up. :-) — Alex (T|C|E) 19:27, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- Can you remove the little "frame" around the back button, though? Thanks. — Alex (T|C|E) 19:28, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Revert to my version again
I revert to my version of my uploaded image, including the album art on the list pane and visualization -- because my latest version of my screenshot is much better than the Themodernizer's version. It IS IMPORTANT to keep this version as is. Ignore that 3rd-Party album art (just like the original screenshot by Harryboyles) so that the readers could show this. Jigs41793 Talk/contribs 09:03, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, but you can NOT use images that demonstrate Windows XP with customizations. The next time you insert an inappropriate image, you will be blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia. —Meteoroid » 13:09, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

- OK. This time, my uploaded screenshot is appropriate. No third-party album art during playback, with visualization, and it uses the default font for Windows XP. Can you please keep this version. So that way people will not be misleading to the readers. Jigs41793 Talk/contribs 13:39, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WHY YOU REVERT?!
Hey! Why you revert to Themodernizer's version? My uploaded screenshot, there's no other copyright content of my latest screenshot... and reverted again myself and the screenshot looks better. Can you please keep this version as is. And so that -- I don't want violating three-revert rule. Jigs41793 Talk/contribs 11:53, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Protected
The image has been protected from further uploads and reversions.
Folks, we've got to come to a resolution on this. Jigs is in favour of having a screenshot that shows the WMP interface "in action", so to speak, whereas others favour a blank interface. The argument in favour of a blank window is pretty straightforward: Show the default UI. This is a good approach, and we use it on a number of articles. But what if that default doesn't do a good job of demonstrating the application's capabilities? Me personally, I am in favour of a Windows XP rendition of Image:Windows Media Player 11.png, which shows the media library, because it demonstrates more of what the application does. Image:Windows XP.PNG, for example, does this while staying within our "default UI" philosophy.
That's just me, though. If everybody involved can explain their own thinking about what we should do, hopefully we can find some consensus. -/- Warren 17:10, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Warren. Also, I should add that the reason that the Windows Media Player 11 on Windows Vista screenshot had the media library open was (I was the original uploader of that screenshot) because that is the way the player opened the first time it was run. I'm not sure if the same thing goes for the Windows XP version of Media Player, I just thought this was worthy of mention. — Alex (T|C|E) 21:30, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'd agree with both of you, and I believe XP may open the same way (don't quote me though). Chris (Talk) (Contribs) 23:52, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with this opinion. However, I believe that until such a screenshot is uploaded, the blank screenshot should remain. Themodernizer 02:07, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

- Okay, why you revert to Themodernizer's version? Why is PROTECTED? Maybe, I'm promise I will not making edit warring -- I upload an appropriate screenshot without a copyright desktop background along with it. Also, my latest uploaded screenshot without the third-party album art. Without customizations in Windows XP in my latest screenshot -- can you please revert to my latest version? - No, you may not. It needs to be the original image (no customizations). All images made by Jigs41793 will be reverted. 68.111.92.229 00:31, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

- I see no problem with the screenshot, save for the fact that it includes a copyrighted album art which may not be covered by the fair use rationale. I guess it should be replaced with the David Byrne thingy that comes with XP. Also, the fair use rationale should be a bit more detailed. --soum (0_o) 03:37, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
