Wilshire/Western is the Westernmost stop on the Metro Purple Line, located at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue. It has an island platform. From here the line was supposed to be extended further into The Westside; out to the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica. While current laws prevent the allocation of sales tax revenues to further subway construction, Metro has funded a feasibility study and is looking for alternative sources of funding, including state bond money, for a possible extension to Fairfax, though an extension to Santa Monica has not been completely ruled out.[1]

The two artwork installations at Wilshire/Western are called "People Coming", and the other "People Going". They are large murals at each end of the station. The artist responsible is Richard Wyatt, a Compton native.

Currently, transit-oriented development is under construction at the Wilshire/Western station and will be completed by 2009.
