Willows Shoppingtown

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Willows Shoppingtown or Willows (as it is called by locals) is a major shopping centre in Thuringowa, Queensland, Australia.

Willows Shoppingtown is the biggest shopping centre in Thuringowa and the third biggest and often touted as the best shopping centre in the Townsville and Thuringowa city area, due to its size and layout plan, boasting wider corridors than nearby Stockland, and Castletown Shoppingworld. Willows also is the main shopping hub for the western portion of Thuringowa City, being accessible by people living in The Upper Ross (Kelso, Rasmussen, and Condon) district of the city, Northern Beaches area (Deeragun, Bushland Beach, Bluewater, Black River) and the Bohle Plains area (Rupertswood, Bohle Plains, Alice River, Kalynda Chase etc.). Since the opening of the Douglas Arterial Road in April 2005, it also now serves parts of the southern suburbs of Townsville (Annandale, Douglas, Wulguru etc.).

The Centre contains 4 major tenants, 80 specialty stores and a 200-seat food court among things. The Centre is also owned by Deutsche Bank.

[edit] Expansion

Deutsche Bank's Investments arm annouced on Monday, 21 June 2006, that the centre will be going under $50-million expansion project, possibly to start mid-2007. Full details have not been released, however it is known that an extra 40 specialty stores, a discount department store (such as Big W or K-Mart), and an expanded and refurbished Coles Supermarkets (which is also the biggest in Thuringowa and Townsville Region), will be part of the $50-million development.[1]
