Willo Flood, (born April 10, 1985 in Dublin) is an Irish footballer currently playing for Cardiff City following a recent transfer from Manchester City.
Flood played his junior football for Cherry Orchard before his move to England. He made his first team debut for Manchester City in a UEFA Cup tie against TNS in 2003. He is an Under-21 Ireland international who represented his country at the Football World Youth Championship in November 2003. His first regular first team football came in spring 2004, with a loan spell at Rochdale. A right sided midfielder, he scored his first goal for Manchester City in a September 2004 League Cup tie against Barnsley, and made a total of 12 appearances in the 2004-05 season. At the start of the 2005-06 season Flood had a three month loan spell at Coventry, but on his return to Manchester City an injury ruled him out for several months. He returned to the fringes of the Manchester City team in March 2006, making a handful of appearances at the end of the season, predominantly as a substitute.
Willo started playing soccer in the school yard of Mary Queen of Angels NS, Balyfermot, Dublin 10. He was always quick with his feet, attacking opponents with such speed, he'd be long gone with the ball at his feet before his opponent realised it. Using just jumpers (or whatever could be found) as goalposts in the large schoolyard, he started out with his school pals, Brian Shortall, Lee Cronin, Robert Egan, Gary Maxwell and others, playing kick-about before he started playing for Cherry Orchard.
His talent was unmissable, eventually leading him to get his chance, which he took with a pinch of salt, to make it on the big stage and fulfilling his boyhood dream by getting to play with some of the worlds greatest stars, on the worlds greatest stage. Currently at Cardiff, he's settling in fairly quickly, considering hes part of the 1st team squad.
