The entirety of the school day is the same for all students. There are 7 periods and an additional Teacher Advisory period at the beginning of the day. After school, students are privileged to partake in various academic and athletic activities. An "after-school activity bus" is provided for students who need a ride home. If athletic activities succumb to long hours, a "sports bus" is provided later in the day.

  • School spirit is shown through a pep rally every fall and spring.

[edit] Clubs and Activities

Williamsburg offers many opportunities for students to participate in various clubs and activities to support their academics and challenge them to learn and grow outside the classroom. Such activities include:

[edit] Performing Arts

Williamsburg's Music Department travels every Spring to participate in the Music in the Parks competition. The troupe travels to various amusement parks and play against other elementary and middle schools. Each group (chorus, orchestra, band) usually come home with grade II honors. In recent years, the troupe also comes home with the Esprit de Corps honor (usually given to the school with the most poise and discipline).

[edit] Academics

[edit] Focus

Williamsburg Middle School, dedicated in 1955, is an integral part of the solid educational program in Arlington. Named after one of the most historic cities in the United States, the school strives to meet the demands of that strong heritage by preserving the best of the past and leading toward the future.

Williamsburg Middle School challenges students to learn in an environment that is organized like a series of schools within the school, with experienced faculty working with students both inside and outside the classroom. The middle school model for grades six, seven and eight, allows students who leave elementary school to have a more successful transition between elementary and high school.

Williamsburg's program consists of a team approach for learning where students can grow and develop academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff have worked together to design educational activities for the middle school student that are child-centered and give students the opportunity to become thoughtful, productive, and contributing members of society in an atmosphere of acceptance and respect.

Within each grade level, Williamsburg uses teams for student grouping and teaching of the core subjects of English, math, science, and social studies. Team teachers meet daily to discuss student progress, coordinate programs, and plan instructional activities; Team Leaders meet weekly with the principal. Instructional and content Lead Teachers meet with the principal monthly to analyze test data and set the instructional focus for the coming year. This includes designing staff development and meeting monthly with content teachers. Together, what is achieved is consistent oversight of our educational program and a process for self-reflection and continual improvement.[2]

[edit] Teams

Currently, there are nine "teams", three for each grade. A "team" consisted of a team of teachers to teach a certain group of students. These were the following:

  • 6th Grade: Cougars, Coyotes, Grizzlies
  • 7th Grade: Alpha, Seekers, Phoenix
  • 8th Grade: Questers, Wave, Odyssey
  • HILT: Rockets
