William Wood (U.S. Army officer)

William Wood (1961 – October 2005) was an American army officer.
He served as the commanding officer of the 184th Infantry Regiment in Iraq, and (as of November 2005) was the highest ranking United States military casualty in Iraq combat. He held the rank of lieutenant colonel, but had not been informed that he had been approved for promotion to colonel.
He was based in Fort Stewart, Georgia.
