William Whytehead Boulton

Sir William Whytehead Boulton, 1st Baronet DL (10 January 18739 January 1949) was a British soldier and politician.

The son of William Whytehead Boulton and Mary Hudleston Gibson, he served in the Royal Horse Guards and in 7th Volunteer Batalion, Essex Regiment, reaching the rank of Major. Between 1931 and 1945, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Sheffield. Boulton was Deputy Lieutenant and Lord Commisioner of Trade from 1940 to 1942. Having been also a Government Whip as Vice-Chamberlain of the Household from 1940 to 1944, he was made a Baronet, of Braxted Park in the County of Essex on 30 June 1944.

On 23 April 1903, he married Rosalind Mary Milburn, daughter of Sir John Davidson Milburn, 1st Baronet. They had four children:

  • Sir Edward John Boulton, 2nd Baronet (1907–1982)
  • Ralph Milburn Gibson Boulton (1909–1916)
  • Sir William Whytehead Boulton, 3rd Baronet (b. 1912)
  • Christopher Carmichael Boulton (1919–1994)
