William Tarmey (born William Cleworth-Piddington on April 4, 1941 in Ardwick,Manchester, Lancashire) is an English actor and singer best known for playing Jack Duckworth on the soap opera Coronation Street, a role he has played on a continuous basis since 1983. It was announced on 4 August that William has renewed his contract to stay on Coronation Street till Autumn 2007.

Tarmey is a former nightclub singer and entertainer who has released several albums and who originally worked during the day as a non-speaking "extra" on Coronation Street before landing his starring role. He and his wife now live in Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire. He is renowned amongst admirers for his boyish good looks and Jack the Lad persona as portrayed in Coronation Street.
