William R. Mapother is an American actor and former teacher.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky he is a cousin of Tom Cruise and was a production assistant on two Cruise films in the 80s. Like his cousin, he completed a course in the Church of Scientology in 1989[1], although he has not referenced being currently active in the Church.
Mapother graduated from the University of Notre Dame as an English major. He taught high school in East Los Angeles for three years before becoming an actor.

His father, William, Sr., was an attorney and bankruptcy consultant and was a judge in Louisville in the 1960s; William Sr. passed away on June 22, 2006 after fighting lung cancer and pulmonary fibrosis.[2]
