William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute is a public high school located in Toronto, Ontario. [5] It was built in 1960 to accommodate the skyrocketing amount of new students in the area. [6] [7] Mackenzie offers a wide variety of programs, clubs, teams, and courses to meet a number of student needs. The school is named after the first mayor of Toronto and leader of a failed rebellion in Upper Canada in 1837, William Lyon Mackenzie. The school offers the MaCs program, a Math, Science, Computer, and English enrichment program along with a gifted program. Mackenzie is also known for its competitive sports teams, including Rugby, Boys and Girls Volleyball, and Girls Soccer.

Mackenzie is known for the high academic standards of its students. Over 95% of its graduating students are accepted into a post-secondary instituations.[8] Additionaly, 66% of the graduating students earn a 80% average, qualifying them to become Ontario Scholars.[9]
Students often preform well in academic competitions, such as the Leonardo da Vinci competition. [10]
Inga Skaya, the current Miss Universe Canada attended William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute and graduated in 2004[11]Additionally, another Miss Universe Canada, Alice Panikian, also attended Mackenzie.
