William J. Mann

William J. Mann is a biographer and Hollywood historian acclaimed for writing what has been called the "definitive" (Sunday Times, London) life of Katharine Hepburn: The Woman Whom Was Hepburn, published in October 2006. In addition, Mann has written the widely praised Wisecracker, a biography of film star William Haines; Edge of Midnight: The Life of John Schlesinger; and Behind the Scenes: How Gays and Lesbians Shaped Hollywood 1910-1969.

Mann is also a novelist, having penned the very popular series that begin with The Men From the Boys in 1997, continued with Where the Boys Are in 2003 and concluded with Men Who Love Men in 2007. Two other novels are The Biograph Girl and All American Boy.

Kate: The Woman Who Was Hepburn was named one of the 100 Notable Books of 2006 by the New York Times.

Mann lives in both Palm Springs, California, and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
