William Boyde is a British actor, best known for his work on British television.

He has appeared in Just William (1977); the BBC drama Secret Army (1978); Bergerac (1981) and the detective series Dempsey & Makepeace (1985). Theatre work includes; Dr Watson in A Study in Scarlet, Jack Favell in Rebecca and Charles Condomine in Blythe Spirit.

Boyde is most famous for playing the role of James Willmott-Brown, the owner of The Dagmar winebar, in the BBC soap opera EastEnders (1986-1989; 1992). His character became one of the soaps most renowned villains after raping barmaid Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) in 1988.

Since his last appearance in EastEnders Boyde's television credits have been few. One of his most recent roles was playing Tim the pub landlord in the Johnny Vaughan sitcom 'Orrible in 2001. The show was panned by viewers and critics alike and failed to get commissioned for a second series. [1] In 2004 Boyde guest starred in the Doctor Who audio adventure, The Harvest.

Boyde believes that his controversial role in EastEnders caused him to be typecast and damaged his acting career.[2] He now mainly does voice-overs for radio and television advertisements.
