Willem de Mérode

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Willem de Mérode (September 2, 1887May 22, 1939), is the pseudonym of Dutch poet Willem Eduard Keuning.

He started writing at the age of fifteen. He explored many different genres of writing - using a different pseudonym for every style - and many of his poems celebrate his passion for boys. He also had a number of pederastic friendships with teenage boys, most of which were - by his own choice - of a chaste nature. One of these relationships became sexual at the insistence of the youth, was discovered by the authorities, and he served a year in jail as a result. One of his works is a compilation of poems on the beauty of boys, titled Ganymedes.

Towards the end of his life he was awarded the Oranje-Nassau order of knighthood, a royal decoration.
