Wild Canid Survival and Research Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Wild Canid Survival and Research Center is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving wolves and other wild canids through preservation, breeding, and research. The research area is commonly known as the Wolf Sanctuary. It was founded by Doctor Marlin Perkins and a group of like-minded individuals in 1971 who were interested in the plight of the wild wolf.

The center has been located on 63 acres (250,000 m²) inside Tyson Research Area, which is located 20 miles (30 km) outside St. Louis, Missouri since its formation. However the center has acquired 81 acres (330,000 m²) of land south of Pacific, Missouri and plans to relocate the Canids by 2004 and build a visitor center on the new property.
