Hi William:

Your help would be much appreciated on the history of the gay rights movement, in articles Gay rights and Gay rights in the United States. It's pretty dubious and shallow. I mostly don't have access to printed sources, and I was only able to find a few cursory or tertiary sources online.

Adding links to one's own works, whether articles, websites, or both, is a minor form of self-promotion which is frowned upon generally. Since the works are few in number, academic and non-commercial, there is little harm. As you may imagine, we get many links which are none of those three things. It appears that you may not have received the answer to the query that you left on Will Beback's talk page. If so, the relevant guidelines are at WP:SPAM and WP:EL. Regarding guidelines and policies; they are edited in much the same chaotic manner as the articles. Consequently, they may be redundant contradictory and inchoate. You removed a reference in Gay rights which was paired to a Harvard style citation for the text "By 1969, there were dozens of homophile organizations and publications in the U.S." I assume that you meant to replace the reference with this addition:

Bullough, Vern L. (ed.) Before Stonewall: Activists for Gay and Lesbian Rights in Historical Context. Harrington Park Press, 2002.

However, this change broke the Harvard style citation. If you change a Harvard style reference, please remember to change both parts. It is critical to preserve references in controversial articles that are subject to vandalism. I would welcome your input in editing the article and providing good references, which this article desperately needs.

If the Bullough reference does not support the above quoted sentence, then the reference should be reverted back to your online review. Wuzzy 00:48, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I note that you have reverted some of your earlier edits of Gay rights. Thank you. However, as a result, there is no page-bottom reference for "By 1969, there were dozens of homophile organizations and publications in the U.S." The original reference was to your online book review (not the book):

which I thought would do in a pinch since I did not have the book and the online reference was to a review by a historian of a history book. On January 11, you appeared to replace it with a reference to the book:

which is okay if it is correct, but then you deleted this on January 20, which now leaves no bottom reference.
So, my question now is which is the best reference for "By 1969, there were dozens of homophile organizations and publications in the U.S. The choices appear to be either:"

Sir: It is not appropriate to write an article about yourself, therefore I am nominating your biography for deletion. If all of this is true, someone else can write it.V. Joe 20:13, 7 June 2006 (UTC) Sir: If you are in fact Dr. Percy's assitant and writing for wikipedia, might I suggest a different topic for writing. If you are knowledgable about LGBT rights, etc, write about a topic that doesn't directly involve you, or even one that involves you such as outing. If you continue to write articles about your boss, I will cheerfully rewrite for NPOV or grammatical mistakes, etc, BUT I still don't advise this way to start an article, and if there is any sugarcoating in your version, other editors will notice and fix them. Sorry WP, it did come off as a bit inimical at first. What I meant is that myself and others will review the article for grammar and NPOV, much as my own contributions are modified in return. I'm not commanding or anything about other topics, but it is a suggestion is all. Also, it just isn't a good idea for you to write articles about someone you know personally, at least for quality articles. Expect other editors to pay especiall attention to that sort of thing.   • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.

Announcement: If someone requests help or feedback on an article, please try your hardest to help them out if you are able. Thank you.

Project News
  • The LGBT Portal has once again been revamped and a work rota started. Efforts towards Featured Portal status are slowly coming together.
  • The assessment system has been a great success, we have tagged over 4000 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system.
  • The Translation department has changed its focus, to LGBT articles about non-English topics and people on which there may be more information on the relevant foreign Wikipedia. Please add your name if you are fluent in any language other than English.
  • Jumpaclass is picking up slowly, with nine people having entered. With over 2000 stubs we need to improve our article quality. Please sign up and get it going! Challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub!
  • There is an ongoing discussion about the current LGBT categorisation system here, here, and a little bit here. A special page has now been set up here to deal with this.
  • A Watchlist has been set up to monitor controversial and/or highly vandalised articles. It can also be used for article disputes, just add a note explaining the nature of the dispute.
  • With the influx of so many active members, there is now enough support for a LGBT studies peer review, which may be found here. It's in the beta phase at the moment, so bear with us if we make any mistakes. Feel free to peer review any articles you have been working on.
  • It was agreed this month to start reducing the uses of the Notice board, as many members felt that it was not effective. An open tasks template has been created, bringing together important announcements, FAC/FARs, Peer reviews, XfDs, the COTM, and requested articles. You may desire to watchlist it. A Deletion sorting subpage is also now working to bring together XfDs - this should be bot-driven, but we have not currently tagged enough articles to make this fully automated, so please update the list with any LGBT-related XfDs you come across.
