[edit] Userbox & Userboxs
Dear User:Will Pittenger OK, thanks, got your point.
- Now on another matter. There is no Article regarding Userbox, or Userboxes.
- I couldn't do it. And I want to write other articles. Could you do it? Even a Redirect would be useful. Beginners know very soon that these lovely things (which by the way you do a nice job of creating) are called NOT rectangles, Userboxes. But a search yealds NOTHING!
- Thanks, and have a nice day (or night). Yours truly, --Ludvikus 21:42, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re
That is the value that the JS has when there is no cookie for the number. So your browser probably deletes the cookies after a while.
Also, there is a way to do something when the user closes the window, but that would be for every window closed on this site. GeorgeMoney (talk) 21:59, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- You see, the cookies set by the login system and by my cookie system have different lengths. Mine should stay for a year, but your browser probably doesnt like that, so it makes it stay till the end of session (when you close the entire browser). The WP login cookies can also be set to expire at end of session or a while from now (depending on if you click remember me). So basically, my cookies have nothing to do with real wp cookies, just that they will probably expire around the same time. GeorgeMoney (talk) 22:18, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well, as I said above, wp cookies will either expire when you close your browser if you dont set remember me, or about 5 months from when you logged in. so if you have been logged in for 5 months, soon enough you will load a page and be logged out. GeorgeMoney (talk) 22:27, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry about the archive
Well, I've learned much with my trial-and-errot method!
- I still cannot face the need to SEE & READ all that code. I'm glad there are experts like you, User:Will Pittenger, from whose page I could just COPY & PAST. But toobad I made a mess of it!

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Matt Drudge Portrait JPEG.jpg
Thanks for your comments Will. Forgive my ignorance, but I am quite inexperienced with the proper tags to use in anything but a free image and want to be sure I document this image properly to avoid its premature deletion. When you said to use the promo tag, where is it that I should put it? I placed it at the top like I presume you suggest, but should I also delete some of the other stuff I added? Appreciate any feedback you might have on how the image is currently documented. Caper13 23:48, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Archive restored
Will, I've restored your archive. Check to make sure its working as expected. Good luck, Gwernol 03:08, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply. I am a neophyte wikipedian and just learning the ropes. I have wikified the article as you suggested and will continue to expand it as I can find time to do so. [edit] revert problem
I thought I would check back with you and I see there are still some issues with your use of Popups.
In Taylor Lautner you reverted at 23:23, 1 December 2006. Your comment says --(Revert to the revision prior to revision 91475446 dated 2006-12-01 22:37:51 by Academic Challenger using popups)
What actually seems to have happened is you reverted to this version -- 22:37, 1 December 2006 71.251.181.169 (Talk) (→Personal life)
That was the first of the two vandalized versions by 71.251.181.169. When I compare your rev with this they are the same. I hope you get this figured out.-Crunchy Numbers 16:36, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Gilmore Girls episodes
Regarding the "tags" on the articles such as Merry Fisticuffs (Gilmore Girls)... each article should have an introductory paragraph that explains this is about an episode of the Gilmore Girls show. Some added detail such as season, date of broadcast, etc. can be helpful coordinates to establish context. For an example of how an episode page can be formatted, see The Dad Who Knew Too Little from The Simpsons. Hope that info helps with the formatting issues. Dl2000 04:19, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your edits to Kilmore Rec FC
Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Will Pittenger! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, and try to reinsert the link again. If your link was genuine spam, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 02:41, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Shadowbot
I'm not entirely sure why Shadowbot reverted you, it's most likely because your edits were in a section close to an imageshack link. However, I'll look into it, since it shouldn't have reverted. Shadow1 (talk) 12:46, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Check your facts
You have accused me of vandalism on a page I have never even visited (Albert Pujols) - I don't know what you're talking about - I'm also British and have no interest whatsoever in baseball. Kind regards. (Robdav69 13:50, 14 December 2006 (UTC))
[edit] Sic Comédia
Hi.
I am a newbie in this kind of thing, so sorry if I made any mistake. In the IRC channel, I was told to contact you (too) using this form, so I'm doing it.
While the article is a short one (I wanted to add more details in a few hours, since it is 5 AM here), the page has a lot of relevance, as I'll state in my reasoning, to be posted in few seconds. While the channel is rumored to "die" in the 31st, December 2006 , this very same thing was rumored to happen last year, but was delayed due to popular request. The channel is also important, since it is the only the only channel in Portugal that airs most comedy shows, both old and new ones. Ever since it was created, it aired more classical shows such as "Benny Hill", "Allo Allo", "Black Adder" (among others) alongside with more popular and relevant shows, such as "Seinfeld", "The War Next Door", "Late Night with Conan O' Brien" or even Jay Leno's show (I don't recall its proper name). It is the only channel that displays such shows in Portugal (alongside with "Sic Radical", which currently airs "Daily Show") and therefore I think it is important.

[edit] Karlo Sakandelidze
I noticed the article about Karlo Sakandelidze. I do not know who he is, but the article said he was in a film which won the Golden Palm at Cannes. If this is true, then I would certainly say he was significant. The 'rubric' on the tag said I could remove it but I thought I would let you know. Sam Blacketer 23:33, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] About the Alove For enemies purevolume link
So it was not right to put that purevolume link. Other pages have it like I_Killed_The_Prom_Queen.
Should I remove that purevolume link too?
Would it be okay if I say Alove for Enemies Purevolume?

[edit] Turko-Persian Tradition
Dear Will Pittenger, Thanks for your kind messages. As you can see,
- Wikipedia:POV check, the policy says "The POV check template, {{POV-check}}, may be added to an article which you feel may need to be edited to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Add the template at the top of the article, and then explain your reasons on the talk page of the article that needs checking (not the talk pages of the template or this article)."
- This template was added there in a racial way.
So, I think it is better to remove template from that article. Regards. MustTC 07:02, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Subst
Thanks for the heads up. I confess I had no idea how the system worked until I followed the links in your message. I shall be sure to add 'subst' to the relevant tags I use in future... WJBscribe (WJB talk) 23:07, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Please becareful with edit subject wording
Geez, thanks for pointing out! As I use the quick text feature from the browsers, somehow I ended using a wrong summary. Will not do this again (hopefully!). Thanks again! -- ReyBrujo 03:35, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] re: auto welcome
i am writing a better script currently which adds a welcome link to the new user log and has more options. i plan to release it soon. GeorgeMoney (talk) 05:19, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- You mean if it finds a red link to a talk page it adds a "(welcome)" link to it? GeorgeMoney (talk) 05:25, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- ok so you mean auto welcome any page that is a blank user talk? I dont think that would be such a good idea - what if you accidentally clicked a link or something. The new version is just like the old, except it adds links to welcome more people in more places, and you can welcome at will instead of it 'auto welcoming' where you could get in trouble for in some places. GeorgeMoney (talk) 05:38, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Magazine article speedy deletions
Hi, please note that the number of articles about magazines in Wikipedia is enormous - here - and instead of asking for speedy deletion, in the future you can simply put expand stub tag. That will be much more constructive in my opinion. Lakinekaki 07:12, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] welcome updated
I have updated the auto welcome script to:
- Add link next to each entry in the new user log
- Add link next to each red link pointing to a user talk page
- Add tab on each user and user talk page
All of these features can be disabled and enabled
All these links mentioned above point to auto welcoming the user in question
To download the new script, install from User:GeorgeMoney/UserScripts/autowelcome.
And all the bugs you mentioned have been fixed.
GeorgeMoney (talk) 00:26, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, it uses a Regular Expression to check if it is an ip, and if so, it uses the ip template you specified in the config.
- The flashing can be turned off by setting welcome.link.redTalkLink.blink to false.
- It only adds those welcome script links to foo_talk namespaces, and wikipedia: namespace pages. Should i add special: too?
- PS: you should copy the script, not include it so you can change the config and such.
- GeorgeMoney (talk) 01:47, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- Ok now to edit the config, you would copy the code from where you see the comment "//2:Copy everything, from this line........" until the comment "//end config", then use your import module to include the page. then you are free to edit the config
- special is now a legal namespace to add links. no, there is no way to get a list of namespaces at run time unless someone goes into mediawiki and adds that variable directly from the php
- It now also adds the link to red link userpages. I guess to see if the talk page already exists you could hover over the link with popups which seems to work for me.
- if it detects the same talk link as a previous user page link, there is no (easy) way to just turn it into a "[w]" or something link.
- It should now work on preview screens too
- GeorgeMoney (talk) 05:50, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- It would be very hard to check if the talk exists if there is a blank user link. I would have to mess with http GETing, which is not bad but would cause pages to load extremely slowly (ie a new request per link), and would drain the servers.
- I could add each user encountered to an array (in js it is called array), and have it check that array for each link, but again that would make it take forever to load and would be adding a huge load to your browser.
- I could have it check if the page was not blank and ask you to continue if there are already contents on the page.
- GeorgeMoney (talk) 06:16, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
-
- Ok i have added the alert to see if you want to continue if the page is not blank.
- And i will get around to that FAQ soon enough.
- GeorgeMoney (talk) 06:29, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re:stuff
- If you press cancel, it should add the template and fill the summary, etc.. The reason for this is because if there is another welcome there, you press "cancel" on the alert, and you just exit that tab. But if there was just something like a warning, they still deserve to be welcomed, so you just have to press save.
- My speedy deletion script only works for admins. i.e. it doesn't tag the page, but deletes it.
- The admin list css should now work if you include it or copy it or whatever. I had to set it up to be dynamically generated and fetch the admin list directly from wp.
- I dont think tabs added by my script can be compatible with the duplicate tabs because the duplicate tabs script must be run after everything else, and apparently it doesnt do so. You might be able to add the duplicate tab script to the end of your monobook and it might work, but i dont know.
GeorgeMoney (talk) 19:55, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] re:popup conflict
I would say it is Lupin's bug. All my script does is add a link it has no effect on popups. It is probably due to the fact that the link was added instead of being on the raw html, so popups might go crazy on it. GeorgeMoney (talk) 03:38, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- I middle click it too but i dont think it does anything to the popups. GeorgeMoney (talk) 04:11, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Actually..... the problem might be due to me setting "onmouseup" as the function to turn it green instead of onclick (that was the only way for it to work with the firefox middle click). GeorgeMoney (talk) 04:26, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Carol Merrill
I removed your wikification tag at Carol Merrill as it seems pretty wikified to me. Is there any thing in particular that jumped out to you that led you to add that tag? Metros232 20:19, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] List of people by name: Lop
_ _ I'm rv'g your placement of a "notability" tag on List of people by name: Lop, without prejudice to your option of placing it instead on List of people by name. As you should have seen (assuming you looked at the rendered version's first screenful), the page is integral to a structure of some 700 pages, and its "notability" cannot sensibly be evaluated except as part of that of the whole structure.
_ _ As to the merits of the tag, i argue what has been implicit in the discussions all the previous challenges to the encyclopedicity of pages of the LoPbN tree, that these pages are not articles but navigation pages, and that their appropriateness on WP is subject to notability considerations only in the sense that other nav pages are: the tree is needed bcz it improves access, for some users on some occasions, to pages on notable topics. Since that access role encompasses tens of thousands of pages, many of them part of important routes to other pages (and the multiplication of entries should not abate short of the low hundreds of thousands), these pages are unusually indispensible ones.
_ _ If you continue to feel such a tag is needed, i urge you to first review Talk:LoPbN#Full List of VfD/AfD Debates, in order to minimize wasted effort.

[edit] re: welcome bug
Ok I will add 2 new configuration items: welcome.options.maxLinks = 1000;
and welcome.options.warnIfOverMaxLinks = true;
so please update your configuration. GeorgeMoney (talk) 01:30, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- All you need to do is add the 2 configuration items i said before and refresh your cache, I have fixed the bug. GeorgeMoney (talk) 06:16, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- There is no way to change the button labels of the default javascript alerts. GeorgeMoney (talk) 06:55, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- Looking at your monobook, you never added the configuration item #2 GeorgeMoney (talk) 05:39, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- Yeah JS doesnt take uninitialized variables very well... It was just that i couldnt add a check for every variable to see if it was undefined. I just check for the entire package being undefined. GeorgeMoney (talk) 06:15, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
-
-
[edit] welcome onmouseup
Well i think altering the events of the link also alter the popups, because they too rely on link events. Though this might not be the case, i would go for that reason instead of "because they were added by the script instead of being in the html". GeorgeMoney (talk) 05:54, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
- I mean i previously said the reason the popups go crazy is because the links were added on load time by the script, instead of being in the original, donwloaded html sent by the server, which might cause the popups to treat the links differently. But now i think that the onmouseup is a more explainable reason for the popups malfunctioning. GeorgeMoney (talk) 06:02, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- I cant really say if it is fixable or not, sorry. GeorgeMoney (talk) 06:07, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- That would have been a good idea, except sometimes there is a legit reason to have popups on a link with that type of url. A better solution would be for popups to ignore a special class of links like class="nopopups". GeorgeMoney (talk) 20:57, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] High Speed Editing
It looks like you've been doing some high-speed page creation (>6 pages/min) of an idetical nature, if you would like to run a welcomebot please request a bot flag at WP:RFBOT so as not to flood the NewPages and RecentChanges logs. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 02:21, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update, will look in to this; but no your normal editor account shouldnt be bot flagged, I'll get back to you if any thing is advisable. Thanks! — xaosflux Talk 02:58, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, just looked this over, was quicker than I thaught. Using this script is fine, the issue occurs when it is being used very rapidly, as it flood logs. I use a auto-welcome button to and it is helpful, but I don't use it to go down the list of all new users and send them a message (usually use it if anything else brings be to that user apge, and they haven't been welcomed). On the other hand, if you want to use this in a highspeed fashion, you should create a second account for it (e.g. WillBot) and send all of the welcomes from that account after it has been approved to be a bot account. Historically welcomebots haven't been accepted by the community, but there is always room for improvement and requests will be entertained at WP:RFBOT. (In a nutshell:script is fine, rapidly creating new pages with a script (unless an approved bot) is not ok). Let me know if you have any questions, — xaosflux Talk 03:06, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
