"Wilson Rawls was born in Scraper, Oklahoma in September 24, 1913, to Minzy O. and Winnie Hatfield Rawls. Being half Cherokee Indian, Winnie Rawls was allowed a piece of land to keep, which became the source of the Rawls family's income. Wilson, during his early years, helped in the rural farm of Scraper, without any education. Meanwhile, his mother taught him to read and write.
