Talk:Wilberforce, Ontario

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just the start, to establish it. --Dumarest 22:11, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

  • On the startup page of Wilberforce, Ontario, Dumarest stated that Wilberforce was "A colony of American Black citizens, initially from Cincinnati, Ohio, in the early 19th century."

Here is the Link to Ontario's Black Heritage: http://www.ontariotravel.net/TcisCtrl?site=consumers&key1=destinations&key2=Southwestern&key3=BlackHeritage&language=EN Item 9. contains information about a Black colony at Wilberforce, in the 1830's. It does not specify if it is in reference to the community of Wilberforce, Ontario, or if it is Wilberforce Township, Ontario, in the Ottawa Valley.

User Dumarest, who started the page "Wilberforce, Ontario" has not provided the source of his information. Since that website concerns mostly with communities in the western Lake Erie region, there were several places on its shores where the Underground Railroad connected to. Perhaps there is another Wilberforce somewhere in Ontario. On the other hand, the Underground Railroad route from Massachusetts, terminated near the mouth of the Ottawa River, which flows from the area of Renfrew County, Ontario. Furthermore researching history is not a matter of cut and paste.

I apologize if I was wrong - I did some real bang up quick research on the matter. But, for the future, it's better to just change errors and source them on the page, than to point out error directly on the page. Thanks, though, for the help; it's greatly appreciated. I guess I could have just deleted the Dumarest part and left yours as is, it wouldn't have been wrong, but no one would have known about the Wilberforce connection to Lost Channel. Hopefully some day we will find out more about that Black colony.W W 05:19, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
OK, I am back. The Wilberforce that I started [and I am VERY delinquent in following up] was established by Cincinnati blacks, and I WILL SOON!!!!! get all the stuff in, including references. --Dumarest 21:27, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Following up, the Cincinnati connection is to another Wilberforce in Ontario, and I will enter the material there. --Dumarest 12:37, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
