Wikipedia talk:Wikipedians/California

Wouldn't it be a bad idea to replace this with a category? A category wouldn't allow us to add little notes, or separate ourselves into regions. California is a really big place (bigger than Germany) - Eric 22:07, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
- Categories won't allow for annotation (notes) but that really belongs in a user's page rather than have TONS of large, unsorted list on the website. Almost every other wikipedia (non-EN) is currently using categories instead of lists for this and a few other reasons. Also, it does not detract from the ability to add sub-categories (say, for instance, in Category:Wikipedians in New York there is also a sub-cat of Category:Wikipedians in Upstate NY. I hope this clears this up for you a bit. There are now more and more users lending to help make this conversion from lists to cats, please feel free to step in and help complete California, which is going to take some time and effort to sort out (and I would rather get the greater bulk of the states finished before begining to focus on the specifics of very large states). --thereverendeg 00:12, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
- I think the biggest question that is holding me up is what exactly should the sub-cats and the subsub-cats be. After that, putting each Wikipedian into the appropriate one is easy. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:14, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Regions
I have created the following regional categories: Category:Wikipedians in Northern California, Category:Wikipedians in Central California, and Category:Wikipedians in Southern California. I have easily added those in Southern California using Kakashi Bot. However, I think the organization as it stands could use some further improvement. Splits to Los Angeles and San Diego would be useful, and such. So far, I have only created this template: {{UsercatUSCA}}. --AllyUnion (talk) 06:31, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
