[edit] Template:Stones Throw Records

I created a template for Stones Throw, but it needs some major works. Most of the albums are in the red, and the same goes for a lot of the artists. Also, I wasn't sure which releases on www.stonesthrow.com were EPs. Any help is appreciated.--Xxplosive 21:01, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Let's do this thing W guice 10:58, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

  • I added A LOT more albums to the Stones Throw template. It looks like a mass of red text right now because most of the albums don't have pages. Any help would be really appreciated! Most of the albums are instrumental versions of other albums, so you can almost just copy and paste.--Xxplosive 02:40, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lingo

I believe explaining the slang used in hip-hop songs can make the articles more accessible to the general public. See my example at Jay-Z's Girls, Girls, Girls- Eixo 03:28, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

That's a good idea. I think we also need more "Singles" pages. There aren't too many for underground songs. --Xxplosive 20:22, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MF DOOM/GM Grimm Rivalry really real?

While browsing through MF DOOM and related articles, I noticed that in the GM Grimm article it said,

"Grimm went on to release several 12" singles on the Fondle 'Em label and also collaborated with MF DOOM on an EP released by Brick Records entitled "MF EP". Since then, MF DOOM and Grimm's relationship has grown into a rivalry."

While this may have been true, I believe that there should be mention that it dissapated since then, being that they worked together on King Geedorah and in Monsta Island Czars. I doubt that they would work together if they really had such a rivalry...

Also, although not completely related, under the KMD article, it simply says,

KMD contained three members:

  • Zev Love X (later called MF DOOM)
  • DJ Subroc (Zev's younger brother, died in car accident)
  • Onyx, the Birthstone Kid

While in the Rodan (rapper) article, it says that, "He was one of the original members of KMD.

  • it didn't say exactly what point the "then" refers to in "since then". after Ibliys, King Geedorah and the MIC album (as well as Special Herbs and Spices Volume 1, which someone mysteriously removed from the article yesterday for no good reason) they fell out over money and a perceived diss from Dumile on the Dangerdoom record. Details are in the Dangerdoom article. You're right about Grimm's article needing some expansion, tho -W guice 23:00, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Yea DOOM dissed Grimm and the MIC on the "El Chuba Nibre" track I think. Grimm replied with "Book of Daniel" on his American Hunger album. --Xxplosive 03:02, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Top 10 List" by Masta Ace

Does anyone know who produced this song? If you do, can you add the producer to the Hip-Hop Forever III compilation by DJ Jazzy Jeff. That's the only song that I don't know who the producer is. Thanks. --Xxplosive 00:39, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Saukrates has been added as producer. Only source I have is the labeling on the vinyl single, sorry. Olavrg 18:36, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for adding that.--Xxplosive 20:54, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Back

Okay, I finally wrote an article that would mark my first real contribution to this project. I would appreciate if anyone threw in any ideas or criticism for k-os at its peer review. - Tutmosis 20:09, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project Directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:

  • User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory 2,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Philosophy and religion Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Sports Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory/United States, (note: This page will be retitled to more accurately reflect its contents)
  • User:Badbilltucker/History and society directory, and
  • User:Badbilltucker/Science directory

and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 21:37, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now put the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 00:23, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Activity

Is anyone still active? If yes I have a suggestion, do you guys think we should create a Hip Hop assement system similar to Biography wikiproject? You can read up more information about this here. - Tutmosis 00:11, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Irish hip hop

Hi. I came upon this article whose talk page links back to this project. It's in a terrible mess just now and needs some serious help. I can maybe help making the language and formatting better, but I lack the knowledge to do a really good job. Any volunteers? --Guinnog 13:29, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hip Hop Theatre and Danny Hoch

Hey peoples, I just wrote the Danny Hoch article last night because I was tired of the fact that there wasn't one. The Hip hop theatre article needs some work too, if any one else out there is inclined to help these two articles, please do. JesseRafe 21:23, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A request

The Game (rapper) is be requested for peer review here. If anyone could leave comments/opinions, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. --Ted87 21:19, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Is anyone here?

Just curious if this project is active... one of the breakdancing move articles was marked as a how-to, and after looking at the others, it looks like the majority of them are how to (I'm not sure how you'd describe a dance move without describing how it's done, but once the how-to police get started, more trouble soon follows).

I'm going to transwiki the article that was marked to wikibooks (and probably the others too, as it makes more sense to have all of them). there have been a few dance books written lately (swing dancing, latin dancing, folk dancing), and I'm wondering if some members of this project would be interested in doing a book about hip hop dancing (or even something like a history of hip hop in general, as we don't currently have much on that either).

I probably won't be watching this page (I don't do a lot of page watching on wikipedia), but if anyone's interested in getting something started, contact me on my talk page either here on or wikibooks. We can import as many wikipedia articles as necessary: the Import tool brings over all revisions of the article, so if previous versions had been more suited to textbooks or how-to books, you can revert to that version once it's on wikibooks. --SB_Johnny|talk|books 16:55, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Some help is needed!

If anyone is still active in here, the Stones Throw template needs some work. I've been doing a lot of the pages, but there's still a bunch to go.Template:Stones Throw Records--Xxplosive 03:41, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 2 categories for Ice T albums

There are currently 2 exactly the same categories, except for spelling.

Which one should be used? - Tutmosis 16:48, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I assumed that also, but scrolling down to "Stage name" subsection, it says that most of his records say "Ice-T"... - Tutmosis 16:15, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 17:57, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Naming conventions

Per a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stamina mc, I'm wondering about nameing conventions for articles on DJs. It seems like Category:DJs contains DJs whose article names follow one of three patterns:

Most of the ones that are DJ Whomever or Whomever (DJ) do have real names, and for many of them their real names are listed.

One of the objections raised in regards to Stamina mc (and MC Stamina, the person has two articles) seems to be that it is improperly named. However, with the abundance of DJs and MCs named that way I'm wondering if there are any formal conventions for naming DJ articles, and this project seems like the appropriate place to ask. If there aren't any conventions, perhaps some ought to be formed and again, this project seems like the appropriate place to start. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:21, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

I think they should just follow the WP:COMMONNAME guideline, and if the common name is a disambig just add (DJ). Good example of this already in use: Sasha and Sasha (DJ). Some DJ's are commonly refered to as "DJ whomever" and would probably be better off with the article name being as such, while some are not. The afd you cited above I don't think is exclusive to DJ's alone, or something another naming convention will solve, since there are countless people known by multiple names. I think the best way to solve this is research how notable sources refer to the person. —Tutmosis 19:08, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Musical style

Hi there. I'm working on the Hollaback Girl article with hopes of eventually raising it to FA status, but I'm having trouble writing about the song's musical style. The major problem is that because it was produced by Pharrell, it doesn't have many instrumentals and I can't figure out what should be included in the section. What elements are usually discussed in articles about rap songs? ShadowHalo 23:07, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

To start, you should add the project's template to the article's talk page--NPswimdude500 06:11, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Done. ShadowHalo 06:16, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
To be honest I can't think of anything else to add. Great job on the article btw. —Tutmosis 14:37, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Made Man (album)

I created this page today. Hope you visit it and tell me what you think about it and some more stuff if possible. It was a Billboard number one in 1999 and realized we have no page for it. It is also a platinum album. Thanks for reading. Lajbi Holla @ me 18:13, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

  • And please help to rate it on the assessment scale of the project (as well as on Wikiproject:Music). Lajbi Holla @ me 22:00, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Suggestion regarding "Squashing beef" etc.

It seems like some hip hop terms that are often used in the articles seem pretty unfitting to an encyclopedia. Do we really need to use terms like "squash beef" and the like? Maybe the project should look into changing some of terms used to standard English instead of hip hop slang? BuyAMountain 00:30, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of diss songs

Hi, if anyone is active I wonder if you would like to contribute to the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of diss songs discussion regarding the deletion of the following artcle. List of diss songs

I imagine this article would be of interest to this project and it makes sense for people with knowlege in this area to comment. You may see my own opinion on the matter at the discussion link. Thanks -- GQsm Talk | c 20:25, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Images

Just wanted to mention that there is not much under commons:category:Hip hop culture, especially commons:category:Breakdancing, which ought to have a lot of potential. Next time you go to see your local B-boys compete, or just go to a show where there will be some dance action on the floor, bring a camera! - Jmabel | Talk 19:55, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:AlexNewArtBot - New Article Bot

Hi, I am in the trial runs of the User:AlexNewArtBot (see Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approval/AlexNewArtBot). The bot reads all the new articles for a day and puts suspected HipHop-related articles into User:AlexNewArtBot/HipHopSearchResult, the articles are suppose to be manually put into the portal page and/or removed if irrelevant. Or whatever you want to do with them.

The list of rules are in User:AlexNewArtBot/HipHop, there is also the log on the User:AlexNewArtBot/HipHopLog explaining the rules that sent an article to the search results (the log is cleared every day, so try to look into the history of the log). Please contact me if you are interested in the fine tuning of the rules

That is all. Any suggestions are welcome.

Not really. Lajbi Holla @ me 05:21, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
I disagree. Lenoxus said it himself - he's a rapper. Therefore, he's relevant.--NPswimdude500 (Talk|Contribs) 03:38, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
