[edit] Maldonado

Hi. I saw you mentioned the need of creating an article about "Maldonado, Uruguay". Actually, there's no need of doing that, since there are already a couple of articles related to that: Maldonado and Maldonado Department Both of them almost completely redone by me, but they could use some more information and pictures (coat of arms, etc).

[edit] Naming convention

I disagree with the naming convention proposed here, at least for Uruguayan cities. It's not common in Wikipedia to name a city "City, Country", but just "City". The only exceptions to this is either when a city is located in a state of the same name (in which case the state article would normally be called "City", and the city's would be called "City, City"), or when there are several other articles with the same name (for other cities named the same, or for cities with common names), and of equal importance, in which case each article will be called "City, Country", or "City, State" (whichever suits the case) Following the same "rule", the article Maldonado, Uruguay should be moved back to Maldonado. [edit] I'm taking part of this new project

Hi you all. My name is Gustavo Góngora and I'm pleased to tell you that soon I'll be joining this Wikipedia project, although I'm not fully sure about the existing regulations on the subject. I'm Uruguayan and up to now I've contributed with a couple of articles concerning Uruguayan cities, especially in the Spanish version. Since I'm new and an inexpert, my recent writings are based on places of short relevance but not less important for their content. In fact, if you wanna have a look, you are welcome to add or even modify information in Arapey springs and Melo; the former created by me, I mean, I originally wrote it down in Spanish but yesterday I translated it into English; and the later has been fullfied with further details from the Spanish article, which by the way has to be completed as well. Since I consider myself another Uruguayan, lover of his country and, for above all the things, promoter of our culture, customs, geography, etc. I hope you can tell me what should I do in order to join the Wikipedia Project and also, if you wish to, another Project connected with Latin America or geography in general. Thanks for your kind attention and comprehension. Kind regards, --Gustavo86 16:13, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 16:09, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] We really need more people

Ok, I was reading some Uruguay-related articles and I noticed we don't have a project tag in most of the discussion pages. Without a project tag people won't even know this project even exists, we need more members if we want the project to work properly. I'll get to work on a tag and a logo asap. Wesborland 03:09, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Done! The project tag and the userbox are in the Templates section. Wesborland 17:42, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ideas for place articles, administrative divisions

Hi! I'm a member of WikiProject Argentina. I've noticed the articles on departments have a standard infobox that is not a template. We've been using a composite template infobox for cities and provincial departments that you may find of use; see Template:Placebox-begin, and for example San Lorenzo, Santa Fe and San Lorenzo Department.

Also, the department articles don't link to Departments of Uruguay and the linked article intendant contains only a brief mention of Uruguay. We wouldn't know what a department is, really. In Cellulose plant conflict between Argentina and Uruguay someone corrected what I'd copied from an Argentine source calling Omar Lafluf "the mayor of Fray Bentos", a mistake caused by our ignorance of the administrative structure of Uruguay; I left a red link to municipal intendant (Uruguay) that you may be able to fill in.

I could do some of these things myself but I don't want to interfere in the standard structure of Uruguay-related articles; so I leave it to you. If I can be of help, just drop me a note. —Pablo D. Flores (Talk) 19:25, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Greetings

Hi, I'm pretty much the de-facto head of the Wikiproject Peru. I just dropped by to say that you guys could really use a portal. I'd be willing to help if you are in need of it. If you like what you see at the Portal:Peru in a more "blueish" style that is. Anyway, good luck with the project.--Jersey Devil 09:21, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I've been invited, but...

Hi, I've been invited by Wesborland because I'm Uruguayan and I might be interested in working on editing articles related to Uruguay. Unfortunately, that's not exactly my case. My particular interests are automobiles, video games (in particular racing games) and politics... current politics, not "old history". Aboput the first two, there isn't much to write about Uruguay: about automobiles, the only one it could be added is the Indio, but the only good source of information is copyrighted (and I've lost the link); about video games, Gonzalo Frasca's aricle is already there, I've taken part of the 1er Concurso Nacional de Videojuegos but that isn't Wikipedia-compatible (my game even less ;)... About Uruguayan politics, the party's descriptions are indeed short, but I don't feel confident (and wise) enough to write on what has happened during the last five years.

That doesn't mean that I won't edit articles related to Uruguay, it's just I only edit articles when I find something to add (like more accurate ideologies of the parties). If I change my mind, I'll write here again. -- NaBUru38 22:09, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

You can still join us if you want, it's always good to have someone to help on the project page or something like that, but it's up to you. If you are interested, just add your name to the list of participants. Wesborland 20:43, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Music and Carnival

Hi there! I haven't put my name on the "participants" page because I'm not sure I can make much of a commitment, but I may be interested in helping with this project. In particular I am interested in Uruguayan music and Carnaval. For example, I created murga and candombe way back when. If I can help in related areas please let me know. I am also interested in copyediting. I don't spend a lot of time on Wikipedia but I do seem to come back to it often. Mona-Lynn 06:51, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal Expanded

I have expanded the Portal and even added a Categories Dropdown list. I have added all the categories from the category tree, Theres a few more that need to be added if anyone is interested.

It's in Alphabetical order and its really really neat so far, If anyone wants to volunteer to continue doing that, that will be great, Only 4 Category trees remain to be expanded.

I will be adding a sections I think need to be in there by looking at other countries portal

augrunt 08:29, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, thanks. I'm also working on the portal so I guess I'll be talking to you pretty often. Wesborland 23:47, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Created a barnstar

I got sorta bored and inspired, so I've created a barnstar for this WikiProject. It can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay/Award

(I'm not an actual member of this WikiProject, I've just flagged numerous articles with the project's banner)

Enjoy! EVula 04:07, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal needs Anniversary Attention/Articles that need attention

I have added "On this day"... section, if anyone can volunteer to add the days for the month I so far added, that would be great.

Also i've added a "Articles that need Attention" section. This way we can quickly communicate to people of the public what Uruguayan articles require attention, whether it be Photographs missing, or just Stubs.

We should try and minimize all the redlinks that uruguayan articles have. Also some dont even have photos. augrunt 10:37, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Project tag

I've designed a new and more complex project tag. So we have some extra work to do. We have to rate and categorize all Uruguay-related articles when we add the project tag to them (go to the template page and read the instructions, it's really simple as a matter of fact). Wesborland 00:08, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fixed Category and Template:UruguayProject

I borrow source code from Turkey one and rewrite it, and i formed the two trees: Category:Uruguay articles by importance and Category:Uruguay articles by quality. Matthew_hk tc 05:05, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

I add back the topic tree, hope someone cleared the categories by given right topic/class/importance .
Template, Image and Disambiguation, it can given NA class to them, to skip rating on importance, or given their class as Image, template and dab if you think they also need a rating on importance.
But i find a problem on topic, i found that other WikiProject won't put WikiProject TP on category, Template, Image and Disambiguation. sometimes it is difficult to sort them by topic, and i found difficult to wirte the source code to skip the topic selection by NA class. Matthew_hk tc 15:10, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
And what exactly is the difference between that template and the previous one? --Wesborland 23:01, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mercosur Project

Greetings, I just wanted to let you know that I reserved a spot for Project Mercosur. It is basically a wikiproject on Mercosur and the countries that are part of it. Anyone interested please join, there's plenty of work to do. --Wesborland 23:55, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SFD notification

This message is to notify you that a stub template associated with this WikiProject ({{Uruguay-celeb-stub}}) is up for deletion at WP:SFD. Please join the discussion. Thanks. ~ Amalas rawr =^_^= 20:19, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WPMILHIST

A discussion is going on at WikiProject military history whether or not a South American military history task force should be created. The suggestion is currently lacking support but if you are intrested in the topic could you please go to WikiProject Military History's talk page and say you are intrested and are willing to support the taskforce so it can be created. Cheers. Kyriakos 11:04, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:21, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism in Uruguay article

The article about Uruguay is being vandalised on a weekly basis. My semi-protection request was declined so I suggest we keep an eye on it. --~ ~ James Hetfield (previously Wesborland) ~ ~ 19:04, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
