Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Maryland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I would like to help the WikiProject Maryland.

Sure, go ahead, everyone is welcome to join and help out. The best way to help is to spread the word so more people can join. Also you can edit pages related to Maryland, this page lists some templates that can be useful when editing these articles (it mostly lists stub templates for now but as the project matures we'll get some more listed). Oh yes, and don't forget to add your name under participants! And one more thing, don't forget to sign your comments with ~~~~ -Jeff (talk) 23:48, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Roads in Maryland Inclusion

Have the members of this WikiProject ever considered adding some of the more notable roads, bridges, tunnels or other road-related articles currently part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Roads in Maryland? The Baltimore-Washington Parkway is currently the only article I've come across that has tags from both projects. -TheOneKEA

We could probably put some of them in both projects, so long as they are significant to the state as a whole. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge article, given the bridge's status as a major state landmark should probably be included in this project as well as the roads one for example. Same goes for the B/W parkway given its important historical significance. The best thing to think about when deciding whether to include an article or not is if it is more than "just another road or bridge". Also consider the size of Category:WikiProject Maryland articles, we don't want to add too many.-Jeff (talk) 18:06, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Emerson Harrington

The lead photo at Emerson Harrington may not actually be of him. I could use a few more eyes to help. Thanks. --tomf688 (talk - email) 21:18, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

He does look awfully different here.-Jeff (talk) 04:28, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal

Anyone interested in starting Portal:Maryland? As you may have noticed, I listed it under Projects on the main page, but didn't intend to start it until we got some more members. I don't have any experience in creating WikiPortals and only skimmed through WP:P, so I'm hoping that there's someone here that has more experience with this, and could help get this started.-Jeff (talk) 17:40, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I think a portal would be a fine idea. --tomf688 (talk - email) 00:44, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
It's started, still needs work though, in particular it needs a selected article and picture as well as some "did you know?" items. They can all be discussed at the appropriate pages there.-Jeff (talk) 05:22, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
I've added a few suggestions for the "Did you know?" section on the talk page. I'll try to find some good pictures as well. --tomf688 (talk - email) 20:02, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Let People Know About the Project

I strongly recommend that the project get itself listed on the Wikipedia:List of WikiProjects, and that you place the project banner on every talk page that relates to your project. I will help in the latter by placing the banner on all the cities in Maryland and people from those cities that I come to in the course of my own activities. Badbilltucker 19:07, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing the list of wikiprojects to my attention, I didn't know about it before. Thanks for your help with the banners too.-Jeff (talk) 20:32, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Invite

Wanted to let you know that WP:BIOGRAPHY has added a "work group" called Politics and government, and so wanted to invite you to participate on any biography-type articles. The section for MD is here and if there's interest, we can beef it up to look like the newly-created Virginia one plange 05:24, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Invitation to new WikiProject

A new WikiProject has been started, and may be of interest to members here. It is WikiProject National Register of Historic Places. It covers all listings on the Register, in all states and territories. Should you be so inclined, please feel free to join. And spread the word to any other interested parties. -Ebyabe 19:42, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 19:03, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Baltimore mayor's race

Hi all-

Just thought I'd let you know that I've created a page for the upcoming Baltimore mayor's race, which should be something of a doozy, at Baltimore mayoral election, 2007. I added the template for the MD WikiProject to that talk page ... hope that's OK! --Jfruh (talk) 03:31, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

I'll go ahead and add this to the new articles section.-Jeff (talk) 20:32, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Maryland's 1st congressional district

Just FYI, I've finished the biographies for all the Congressmen who have represented Maryland's 1st congressional district. I finished the 2nd, 6th, 7th, and 8th districts a while ago, so all that is left to do is the 3rd, 4th, and 5th districts. --tomf688 (talk - email) 04:50, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 22:11, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mount Savage, Maryland

Hello, I am new to Wiki editing and still learning so bear with me. I am relocating to Mount Savage and am willing to adopt the article. Let me know if I screw up. Wildwose 1/11/07

[edit] Copyright status of state seal image

I noticed OrphanBot has been going around removing images of the state seal. If anyone knows the copyright status of it, please add it.-Jeff (talk) 16:29, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, seems it's been taken care of-Jeff (talk) 01:42, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Request deletion of the United States Naval Academy from Wikiproject Maryland

While editors are correct that the Naval Academy is physically located in Maryland it is improper to include it WikiProject Maryland. 1) It is deliberately a national university. 2) it is a military base, essentially. No more than Fort Benning is part of "Wikiproject Georgia" should any of the military academies be part of their states. So neither should West Point nor the Air Force Academy be part of the states where they happen to be located. One academy was in fact moved to another state for a time! Please delete these from Wikistate Projects. Student7 21:26, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New information added on a Maryland Politician

Hi. The wiki section on Maryland caught my eye and I decided to try to create a page for my boss, Delegate Curt Anderson. I am not sure if I did everything right, but I just wanted to post this note to let you all know it has been added.Marylandstate 22:42, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Wow, nice start. I'll go ahead and add the project templates for this project and Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography to the talk page. Also, it's usually a good idea to link to the article you'd like to direct other editors to in your talk page comments (Curt Anderson in this case). It just makes it easier for us. Anyway welcome to Wikipedia and WikiProject Maryland, hope you enjoy editing!-Jeff (talk) 04:23, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New articles

Dear Wikipedians, a list of possible Maryland-related articles found by bot is available at User:AlexNewArtBot/MarylandSearchResult. Colchicum 14:49, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Adding this to the useful links box. Thanks!-Jeff (talk) 22:28, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
