    [edit] Infoboxes

we need a new infobox for managers , i can add too the current {{infobox GAA player}} see shane ryan for a good example of it in use . The only trouble with adding to the current info box is that its already quite long add other couple of field could be troublesome any ideas (Gnevin 18:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC))

Ok i've done up User:Gnevin/sandbox3 which is the manager box on it own which looks fine but their is a major problem trying to added to the player box for players who went one to become manager see here User:Gnevin/sandbox5 its far far far to long the only idea i have is to strip out all the achievements for playing and management career. Need Help ! any ideas anyone (Gnevin 21:44, 30 October 2006 (UTC))
I don't think we need all that info in the infobox, we could make another template for achievments and stuff that would maybe take the width of the page, and go at the bottom. Pauric 22:14, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
I love the look of the manager infobox, its true that it will look big but only on the pages with very little text, I cant see how it could be another way? It'll take a while to gather all the info, but the sooner its up and running on the pages, the easier it will be to collate the info of new managers! The older ones will take more time to gather the relevant information. (Frainc 22:21 30 October 2006 (UTC)).
The manager box on its own is fine for the like of Paul Caffrey , but how do we deal with people like Kevin Heffernan who has been a player and a manager (Gnevin 22:33, 30 October 2006 (UTC))
This is probably a bad idea, but il say it anyway! For example, in the case of Kevin Heffernan, how about having the manager box on the right hand side of the page, as it is the most recent. Then, adding the player bit on the left hand side further down the page. In the future, by the time, a player becomes a manger there should be loads of text there, so it shouldn't look over crowded? I think that it could be better than one very long infobox?(Frainc 22:53 30 October 2006 (UTC))
In line with User:Frainc's suggestion. A simple solution what do you's think User:Gnevin/sandbox6(Gnevin 23:21, 30 October 2006 (UTC))
User:Gnevin/sandbox6 still looks crowded, try not having the manager box directly under the player box and putting it in a separate section of the page with the relevant article on its side, and is it possible to put it on the other side of the page? (Frainc 23:32, 30 October 2006 (UTC))
I haven't seen a infobox on the left before can you link me to one , their is a table based trick to force the infobox left but it looks crap (Gnevin 23:46, 30 October 2006 (UTC))
To be honest I never saw it either, it seems that itd be best to have the player and manager infobox together as you did before User:Gnevin/sandbox5, it seems the best and tidiest option? The length of the box is grand, but the main issue is its width! (Frainc 23:59 30 October 2006 (UTC))
five is a non runner for me i mean just look at the code [1] for it ,something along the lines of User:Gnevin/sandbox6 is still the best way imo (Gnevin 19:42, 31 October 2006 (UTC))
ok, itl work the best, itl mean that we can keep the player infobox where they are, when the player becomes a manager, itl be easier just to add the separate box, (Frainc 20:57 31 October 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] DOBs, etc

Hi, I've been making articles for Derry players recently and I can't seem to find any source of obtaining date of births. Is there anywhere online that has a l,ist of date of births and other details for GAA players at all?

We've had major problems in the past finding this sort of info, the closest you'll often get in the national press is x player is 24 or what ever with out ever giving a date of birth (Gnevin 12:21, 15 September 2006 (UTC))

What about scoring and appearnces? There must be somewhere on the net that has these fgures?Commentators always seem to have these statistics, do they just do their own research or is there anywhere they get them from specifically?

I have a friend in the press i'll ask him (Gnevin 13:25, 16 September 2006 (UTC))
OK, thanks. (Derry Boi 21:20, 16 September 2006 (UTC))
[2] so its not on the net back to square one (Gnevin 18:59, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
Which thread is the one you're trying to link me to? (Derry Boi 19:28, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
[3] sorry about the bad link (Gnevin 13:53, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
You think there's any way we could get some of those media packs? Pauric 22:17, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
I'll ask my friend again , might it be worth emailing the like of the local and national newspapers(Gnevin 00:01, 31 October 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Names of County and place of birth on infobox

When we refer to players from Derry should we write Londonderry or Derry, my personal view is Derry. See case of Paddy Bradley. When has Derry ever been referred to as Londonderry by any person writing on GAA affairs? I feel we must make a permanent decision on this. Secondly, when referring to place of birth, should we write Northern Ireland or Ireland or Republic of Ireland depending on each case, see Peter Canavan. If we are referring to Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are we suggesting that the All-Ireland is an international tournament, if we acknowledge separate countries, this is what is being expressed. What should we write so there wont be an absurd swapping and childish swapping of names and titles. I think we should make a decision on this. Frainc 22:05 16 September 2006.

I really think Derry and Ireland should be used. At the end of the day its common sense. (Derry Boi 21:19, 16 September 2006 (UTC))
Um if you are using county and country of birth then the proper geographical terms should be used as per WP:IMOS, hence County Londonderry and Northern Ireland. It has nothing to do with the GAA that information. Ben W Bell talk 21:33, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
If we are using the proper geographicals term then ireland is correct when pointing to the island of , how ever if we are talking about WP:IMOS and its 4/5 person compermise then londonderry is correct (Gnevin 02:21, 17 September 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] GFC/GAC

I did an article last night for Lavey GAC, on the strip I did the football strip, although their hurling team (and probably camogie team) has a different kit, any way of putting both the football and hurling strip in the infobox? Pauric 17:31, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Was actually going to ask something similar myself, ie some teams have home and away kits, I was wondering if there was some way of facilitating both? (Derry Boi 17:55, 20 September 2006 (UTC))

I noticed the Manchester United article has a home and away strip on their infobox, although we might need to edit the GAA template for that. Pauric 18:01, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Hmm interesting might be able to do something with that leave it with me (Gnevin 19:02, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
Ok so this is going to be a problem i can't hide the other kit with if statement and also the name must be predefined such as away kit etc which means is useless for camogie (Gnevin 19:13, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
    Ok got an if working check it out {{infobox GAA club}}
Great job. (Derry Boi 20:15, 20 September 2006 (UTC))

Regarding the ability to have two strips, would you be able to make it so you can name each strip, ie say you wanted senior/minor, or football/hurling, you could say kit1=football kit2=hurling? I'd do it myself, but I'm afraid I found the code somewhat confusing. Pauric 17:33, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

I tired to do that put the name must be define , the football kit template requires it (Gnevin 17:54, 3 October 2006 (UTC))
Ok figured it out and updated now (Gnevin 18:01, 3 October 2006 (UTC))

Bloody hell, that was quick. :P Pauric 18:11, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

    [edit] Club badges, etc.

I read all the stuff about uploading images on Commons, etc, but am still a bit confused.

Am I right in thinking that I can't upload an image from say http://ballinderrygac.com/history.htm  ?

If so, how am I to go about getting such an image if I don't know who holds the copyright? (There isn't ojne I think).

How did people upload images for clubs such as Na Fianna CLG for example? (Derry Boi 17:58, 20 September 2006 (UTC))

You can either contact the site owner, and find out the copyright on it, and ask them to use the image if they own it. As for logos, it's fair use to include them, so upload away. Pauric 18:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
OK so, do I upload to Wikimedia Commons, or just Wikipedia? (Derry Boi 18:26, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
    I guess wikipedia. Pauric 18:31, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Just wikipedia no real need to have on commons, just remember to tag it as {{logo}} (Gnevin 18:58, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
When uploading I selected "Logo" from te drop-down menu, is that the same thing? (Derry Boi 19:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
Should be just link me to we you uploaded i can check its ok (Gnevin 19:08, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Ballinderry.PNG (Derry Boi 19:15, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
You got the licenceing grand. Pauric 19:17, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

    [edit] Welcome

Welcome to the project Pauric hope you enjoy your stay , would say don't be afraid to get stuck right in but you've already done that  :) anyway just though i'd say welcome (Gnevin 20:01, 20 September 2006 (UTC))

Ps make sure too add the project to your watchlist watch (Gnevin 20:03, 20 September 2006 (UTC))

Thanks very much Gnevin. I think I'll start off doing up clubs in South Derry first, as I'd be familiar with them, I'll have a look at those more pressing matters you have mentioned on the front page too. Pauric 22:27, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

    [edit] County Championships

I'm slowly trying to get all the county championship pages up, see: [4] for a complete list of the ones made so far. If anyone knows of any places that are good for full lists of county champions, except HOGANSTAND, please post them here or if anyone wants to start one for a particular county, please do? Any ideas for the pages? and lastly, any infobox people have any ideas? Thanks. Frainc 21:52 September 2006.

Looks good my only suggestion would not to make the years links , i dont see the point (Gnevin 21:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC))

Ok, will do, liked the blue, Frainc 22:07 September 2006.

Was just thinking, it may be good, to make one of those template things so people can get quick access to whichever county championship they want to view next, a bit like the gaelic games template? Frainc 02:33 September 2006.

What would the template contain , links to every county championship , or links to championship in one county ie Dublin Football ,Dublin Hurling, Dublin Camogie, Dublin Ladies ? (Gnevin 17:22, 21 September 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Listing players

I just started the Swatragh GAC article, I listed all the players in their current senior teams and added links to them. What's the general feeling on this sort of thing? I don't know the team well enough to say which players are noteable and which aren't, so should we just remove the player section from this article all together now? Pauric 23:16, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Generally we just link to their Famous Player this tends to be their current and former intercounty stars see CLG Na Fianna and Kilmacud Crokes as good examples (Gnevin 23:33, 20 September 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Table for player's scroing records.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a table on articles such as Paddy Bradley to categorise their scoring records (where available) per year.

    Possible columns being:

    - Year

    - Games played

    - Goals-Points (Total) eg 2-17 (23)

    - Average

    - Rank in Province

    - Rank in Ireland

And if possible columns where no information is available could be hid.

I'm no good at making these kind of things, so if someone has the time maybe they might wnat to make one.

    (Derry Boi 16:58, 21 September 2006 (UTC))

I think its a good idea and should be done, although its tough finding the information for most players, id recommend a goalscorers chart thingie that could be a option just to show one years record, so at least all the 2006 and 2005 will definitely be available for all players. Anyway, I wouldnt know how to do it, but like the idea. Frainc 18:10 21 September 2006

Can you link me to a example in other code eg soccer i'm not sure what you want to do (Gnevin 17:20, 21 September 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Club names

I know this is a bit of a backtrack on previous discussion but i'd suggest naming every club artical X gaa anyone agree (Gnevin 17:30, 21 September 2006 (UTC))

    * Swatragh GAC becomes Swatragh GAA with an opening line of Swatragh GAA officially Swatragh Gaelic Athletic Club (Swatragh GAC)
    • CLG Na Fianna becomes Na Fianna GAA with on opening line of Na Fianna GAA Club (Irish:Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Na Fianna )

Hmm I don't know, personnally I think if we were going to rename they X GAC would be better, but I can see where you're coming from. Or else deal with each club indivdually. What does anyone else think? (Derry Boi 08:31, 22 September 2006 (UTC))

Most people aren't going to know if the club is a GAC/GFC when they search i know i just search for X GAA (Gnevin 12:35, 22 September 2006 (UTC))

I think we should have it *Townland* GAC, then probably make *Townland* GAA and GFC redirect to them. Pauric 17:46, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Right I think we do need to do something about this. Personally I think we should do it on a case-by-case basis. The article should be called whatever the club calls it. But we should also redirect to the article, for example we should keep Lavey GAC, and we should rediect "Lavey GAA", "Lavey CLG" and "Erins Own Lavey" to it. Do we just make new pages for each of these and just put a redirection as the only line of the article? (Derry Boi 16:09, 6 October 2006 (UTC))

I agree , yeah you just make the page and put the redirect on it (Gnevin 19:40, 7 October 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Images

[5] seems to be a good place to find some GAA images just search by creative commons found great pictures today

    [edit] Provincal kits

Does anyone have any pics of the provical kits that are wore during the Interprovincial Championship . If you know what they look like i think i would be good to add to Leinster GAA etc (Gnevin 22:26, 21 September 2006 (UTC))

Here s some images, but theirnot very clear and I don't know what the copyright status of them would be either. (Derry Boi 08:39, 22 September 2006 (UTC))

Ok have added them to the best of what i could see , if you know better please update them, I have requested from some part over at Template_talk:Football_kit#Dark_Green_arms (Gnevin 12:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Category Suggestions

I'd like to suggest we create a few new Categorys based on the All- stars as such we'd have

With a category for each all star year (Gnevin 12:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC))

Good idea. (Derry Boi 13:07, 22 September 2006 (UTC))

Well i've made a start so many to update will take ages (Gnevin 13:51, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
Up to 96 in football , and 03 in hurling (Gnevin 16:02, 3 October 2006 (UTC))
I have changed some of the GAA County Boards from the Catagory 'Gaelic Sports Bodies' to 'Gaelic Games Bodies'. However it is necessary to change another 20 of so. --Gael-wh 14:19, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Ok done (Gnevin 18:57, 8 November 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Dual Player infobox

User:Gnevin/sandbox5 Have a look , feel free to play around with it , any comments and suggestions most helpful . My main concern at the moment is that it looks too full (Gnevin 15:37, 22 September 2006 (UTC))

What about a colour system, rather than whole titles saying "hurling", "football", and (f), (h)? There's probably an easy way to cut down on redundancies if you don't like the colour idea. I think that's the biggest problem I can see with the infobox. Pauric 17:42, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
The trouble with colours is that new user won't be familar with them or how to code it (Gnevin 19:48, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
Unless you stick in some comments in the code, telling them how. Something simple like light green for hurling and light blue for football would work well if there was an easy means of doing it, would it not? Pauric 20:15, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
I've never seen any text colour but black here on wiki can you link to to some where with colour so i can steal the code (Gnevin 21:04, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
I don't really mean text, if you could find some way to work in background colours like WP:COLOR. Pauric 21:09, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Thats a non runner as background must be hard coded in to the infobox (Gnevin 21:15, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
If no one has a problem with the current version i'm going to start adding it to a few players (Gnevin 18:21, 3 October 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Railway Cup

I've had to tag Railway Cup as disputed ,have a look at it's talk page to see why (Gnevin 18:26, 3 October 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] New template

Have a look at Dublin_GAA#Dublin_Gaelic_Football_Squad too see the new gaa squad template (ok so i stole the majority of it from the soccer template) (Gnevin 23:10, 4 October 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Picture of Sam

Does anyone have a decent close up picture of sam, i added 2 pics to Sam Maguire Cup but the one of the cup on its one is very far away (Gnevin 00:40, 17 October 2006 (UTC))

Good Pic here, can we use it? (Frainc 16:00 5 November 2006 (UTC))

    [6]

    [edit] County Championship

How about adding update all the county championship pages with up to date information, roll of honour and top winners section to the to do list? 01:28 Frainc 26 October 2006

    Done (Gnevin 20:53, 27 October 2006 (UTC))
Thanks for that, itl be great when they are all updated. 19:25 Frainc 01 November 2006

    [edit] GPA Awards

Is there an article on the Opel GPA Players of the year awards?

    01:28 Frainc 26 October 2006

There is Texaco Footballer of the Year and Vodafone Footballer of the Year, and I'm not sure how/why they differ. I'm not aware of the GPA players awards.

The Vodafone Footballer of the Year is part of the all stars awards and as so i would suggest moving it to All Star Footballer of the Year
The texaco award is a award part of a whole package of award for irish sports suchs as rugby player of the year etc.
As for the GPA award their isnt an articial you can create if you wish (Gnevin 20:50, 27 October 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Goals and Points

I was thinking of putting a page together with all the scorers of points and goals for Dublin since about 2001, so we could have a database to check scores to add to the scores section on the Dublin players, this should prove especially useful for the newer Dublin players? Frainc 15:07 October 26, 2006

I dont know about this would it pass a WP:NN or WP:NOT test? ,seems to be it wouldnt (Gnevin 21:51, 26 October 2006 (UTC))

[edit] Any articles any where near to being considered for featured status??

Is there a GAA article that is particularly strong? We could all work extensively on it (preferably something we know about, eg All-Ireland Senior Football Championship) and then hopefully, within a month or two it would be eligibel to be reviewed for featured status? even if we get that far it will have encouraged people to read about GAA articles, which is what we are all doing this for, right? This may be my N00b niavete speaking though (ie, that we could get featured within a few months)--Macca7174 23:27, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

To be perfectly honest i don't think any article would get near WP:FA even in two months i'd suggest driving more towards getting some of the above to do list done esp the stub sorting . (Gnevin 20:52, 27 October 2006 (UTC))
I agree. If we were to make a concerted effort to get something towards featured status then it'd probably be the main GAA article, but there's probably a year's worth of work right there. Let's just keep plugging away. --Eamonnca1 19:23, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

    [edit] Club championships

The following is copyed from Talk:Leitrim Senior Club Football Championship

The word "Club" in the name of this article is superfluous. Also, as far as I know, this was taken care of over at the Tipperary hurling championship page. DellusMaximus 06:53, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Basicly DellusMaximus i saying it sohuld be Leitrim Senior Football Championship, Dublin Senior Football Championship etc . I would agree ,what does everyone else think (Gnevin 18:27, 1 November 2006 (UTC))

Why not, its shorter and better, go for it! Frainc 22:43 Wedesday, 1st November.

Can you please list as you move the pages so i can run AWB to fix the links.(Gnevin 15:48, 4 November 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Logos

So, I was having a look at the Derry GAA logo, and the logo was of pretty poor quality.

So, using Inkscape and GIMP, I whipped up a new one, although I realise it's not perfect.

Could I get a bit of feedback on it? If anyone else thinks so, we could do new SVG logos for all the different counties (and maybe some clubs) (although I may need a bit of practice). Let me know how I could improve the new Derry logo too, although we might not use it, I've made a little Doire userbox with it. =p Pauric 22:33, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

That looks great the only thing is the black outline around the oak leave and the outside of the circle if you could get that it would be bang on , also i'd suggest using the eye dropper to get the red colour closer to the original red (Gnevin 12:58, 4 November 2006 (UTC))
Good effort, however, I would be aprehensive about using unofficial (sorry to call it this but I can't think of another word) 'fanart'. Is that how all the GAA logos are made?--Macca7174 00:59, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
The gaa logo here where all taken from official sites but their quality is crap, once it was 100% clear on the on the logo page that is a copy of the official logo i wouldn't see a problem (19:23, 6 November 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] Useful Websites

We are all having difficulty finding websites that give information about player's details, match scores etc. Perhaps it would be a good idea to pool all the websites we use here?? I would suggest everyone mention the websites you, even if they seem obvious - some people may use different search engines etc, and not have come across them yet. I shall start the first few.--Macca7174 11:58, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

    • An Fear Rua's searchThis is good for getting recent year's championships, as well as getting opinions on the state of the game, which a lot of articles need to start addressing.
    • Hogan Stand Mag Probably everyone's first port of call, due to comprehesive coverage of every county individually.
    • RTE's TV News website This is great in that it provides streaming video reports of the day's matches. Go to the drop down menu at the left (archives), and find the date of the match. The archive goes back to June 05, although I don't know if this will remain.

    [edit] New stub proposal

Their is a proposal for a new stub cat over here here ,have your say (Gnevin 22:32, 6 November 2006 (UTC))

    [edit] GAA replacement logo

As you properly know Image:Gaelic Athletic Association.png is licensed under fair use, i am going to ask Pauric would he be able to make a logo that contains a Gaelic football and Hurl such as Image:Cdawson gac.gif so we can use it instead on templates and the likes the other suggestion is two logos one on a hurl and one of ball like this one Image:Offalynewcrest.jpg(Gnevin 20:04, 7 November 2006 (UTC))

That sounds like a good idea, but could you please make sure a sliotar appears in the logo. Hurling and football may be the two most popular and well-known GAA sports, but rounders and handball are official games too. My opinion is that a sloitar would suffice for rounders (a bat would obviously be better), I don't know what handball would require. sony-youth 21:22, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
I'll certainly have a go at it anyway, I'll get a few different ones done tonight, and post them up here. Any suggesions for colour schemes would be appreciated, as I've said a couple of times on here before I'm colour blind, so on the colour side of things, some stuff I do may look a bit naff. Pauric 21:33, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
I've done this one, it's not looking that good, but I've got basic shapes drawn in it. Let me know what you like/dislike, etc. I'll do some more tomorrow, not feeling very creative tonight.
    Pauric 22:41, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
That looks good my suggestions would be too
    • Included the yellow from Image:Gaelic Athletic Association.png for the colours
    • Change the sliotar to a handball like this [7] by removing the line
    • Increase the size of the handball
    • Also is their a case for including a harp? (Gnevin 23:48, 7 November 2006 (UTC))
P.S don't delete old version just upload a new file so we can compare the two (Gnevin 00:03, 8 November 2006 (UTC))
Okay, is a handball white? For the harp, are you wanting to fill up some space with some Irish symbolism? I think there's probably something more relevant we could use than that, although I can't think of anything right now. Pauric 17:40, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
I think the handball is white but i'll ask User:Frainc as he'd know 100% , i suggested the harp as it has been both a traditionally irish and appear on the gaa symbol
    I have a handball at home. It's red. --Eamonnca1 19:27, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
It would appear that their is not set colour , but white seems the most common (Gnevin 22:06, 18 November 2006 (UTC))
Here's how the logo will appear on the {{gaelic-sport-stub}} template

    Category:Gaelic Athletic Association stubs

worth considering (Gnevin 19:03, 8 November 2006 (UTC))

[8] A link to how the offical logo looked before it was removed (Gnevin 19:06, 8 November 2006 (UTC))
If you're customising this for the stub template(s), I'd suggest enlarging the football, caman, etc, skipping the text, which doesn't work too well at 30px, and perhaps using a square or 4x3-ish rectangyular background, to make better use of the space. Alai 20:48, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Did a couple more, re both your suggestions. Just realised I forgot to do the box thing you mentioned Alai, I'll get it done though.

    Pauric 22:31, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Image:GAA logo-test2.png looks very good for the templates ,am very impressed , could you do this with Cumann Lúthchleas Gael around the outside going over the top and Gaelic Athletic Association going down for use on userpages and other use's ?

"could you do this with Cumann Lúthchleas Gael around the outside going over the top and Gaelic Athletic Association going down" - Not sure what you mean sorry, could you rephrase that? Pauric 22:47, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[9]] like this but where this has department of energy you'd put Cumann Lúthchleas Gael and where USA is would be Gaelic Athletic Association (Gnevin 22:54, 8 November 2006 (UTC))

Okay, I'll give it a go, but I'm not sure how to do it with my software just yet. Pauric 23:04, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

I like test2 too, very nice job. I wouldn't worry about the 'box': that was just a suggestion, and the disk looks clear enough at 30px, I think. Alai 23:05, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

I like the direction of test2. But have a few comments: 1. the proportionate size of the hurleys look huge; 2. especially in relation to the sloitar; 3. are those rounder's bats or goals? (sorry!) I'd also suggest playing with what it looks like without the green/orange disk, this would give more room for composing the image (composing in to a square rather than a circle) which might be more useful for use when it is scaled down, like in the stub article template. But really, it's a great job, these are just minor - well done. --sony-youth 11:11, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Whoa whoa whoa guys, hold everything. What's going on here? Why are we trying to concoct a new logo for the organisation? I mean, if the Sony logo were licensed under fair use, would wikipedians just invent a new one? I don't think the company would appreciate that. What you guys are envisaging here is not an actual official GAA logo, so to use it and pass it off as such is misleading, kinda contrary to the whole point of what wikipedia's all about. Why can't we just use the official GAA corporate logo? --Eamonnca1 18:34, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

We are not trying to replace the offical logo we need a logo as the stub template cant use fair use logo's either can any other templates or the numerous other places. This logo will represents Gaelic Games not the GAA just like Image:Ru_ball.png (Gnevin 19:21, 13 November 2006 (UTC))
Well then the 'logo' shouldn't contain the words Gaelic Athletic Association if that's not what it represents. Just so we're clear, is this just going to be an internal wikipedia thing? If so, it should be crystal clear that it's a wikipedia thing. And what are those two vertical drumstick-like objects? Also, I'm not clear on what you mean by a 'fair use' logo or why you can't use it. Where is that documentation? (You'll have to forgive me, I'm not familiar with a lot of wikipedia's stuff beyond basic text editing). --Eamonnca1 21:26, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
The drum sticks are Rounders bats and the WP:Fair use , it basicly means its ok too use the GAA logo on the GAA specific pages but players etc. are covered and since templates can be used anywhere Fair use means they cant have the logo (Gnevin 21:33, 13 November 2006 (UTC))
Sorry, can you re-phrase the part about fair use? Thanks. --Eamonnca1 01:43, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
Basicly is says since the GAA logo is copyrighted we can use it on the GAA pages that is fair use ,as their is no other way we can show the GAA logo without using it. However fair use also states that while its on too use it on GAA pages they are the only ones as the GAA still retains the copyright and anyothere usage is in breach of copyright, hope that explains (Gnevin 19:58, 14 November 2006 (UTC))
So you want to create a GAA logo to use on non-GAA pages? Why? In any case, why not just get their permission to use it? I know D Power at Croke Park, I could speak to him and get his permission if need be. --Eamonnca1 23:29, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
Not on non-GAA pages , pages such as player pages or user page or grounds, For the offical logo too be useful on Wiki the GAA would need to give up the copyright which isnt going to happen (Gnevin 00:15, 15 November 2006 (UTC))
What do you mean 'give up the copyright?' Surely all they have to do is give permission for the logo's use on GAA-related pages. --Eamonnca1 18:30, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
I've added "test2" to the gaelic-games-stub template, since that seems to be the general gist of the above discussion. Alai 19:52, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
    Looks good here's a quick
     This user supports Gaelic Games.

userbox, feel free to edit it (Gnevin 21:46, 15 November 2006 (UTC))

Can't figure out how to wrap text around the logo, any consensus on what needs to be changed on this logo? If anyone has one of the newer releases of photoshop though, I know there's a feature to make text follow paths if they want to have a crack at it. I like the userbox there Gnevin. -- Pauric (talk-contributions) 22:14, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it'd be a good addition for either the userbox or the stub template; the text would be too small, and cramp up the rest of the image. It might also raise the objection that Eamonnca1 makes above, of appearing to be an "alternative" GAA logo, rather than representing Gaelic games in general, as is intended. Alai 00:03, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Yeah i'm in agreement looks fine without the text , can you change the sloitar to a handball?(Gnevin 00:08, 16 November 2006 (UTC))
Sorry, thought I'd already changed it. Want me to overwrite the test2 file with the updated version? -- Pauric (talk-contributions) 00:13, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
    -- Pauric (talk-contributions) 00:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Thats looks great , you could proberly give it a proper name and description now (Gnevin 00:30, 16 November 2006 (UTC))
I find the rounders bats a bit confusing. Is it really necessary to include them? --Eamonnca1 18:30, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
I think it is, so we can represent more than just the two big sports. However, if you have any ideas of a better way to represent rounders, I'm all ears. :) -- Pauric (talk-contributions) 18:40, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
How about crossing the bats somehow like the hurlies? I'm not sure where you'd put them though. --Eamonnca1 18:21, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
What about right underneath the hulries, and above the handball? -- Pauric (talk-contributions) 19:02, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
