Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dutch municipalities
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
See also Template:Province South Holland 2p (e.g. in Rotterdam), which includes a numbered map. This shows not only the location of the municipality but also e.g. the names and locations of nearby municipalities.
It also supplies some standard external links. Some could be moved to Template:Infobox Dutch municipality.
These things could be extended to other provinces.

- I think that in an article on a municipality it is better when there is only one place to look for statistics. The logical one in this project would be the infobox. A problem with the population numbers on the external link is that no date is provided. I really liked the addition of the interactive map to the province-template of Utrecht (as an example). There it is well placed, because the reader is orienting within a province Pethan 19:07, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)
In the articles I have structured according to the principles explained here, I have left out the province in the first line, because it would be redundant with the province in the infobox and the navigational template Pethan 20:36, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Sub-stubs and soft redirects
(These are miscellaneous ideas I tried out, see below for what may be the best solution.--Patrick 1 July 2005 13:57 (UTC))
Some people are against redirecting a village to a municipality, and have deleted many, violating the guidelines and procedure of Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion, and breaking links, e.g. from Railway stations in the Netherlands. Therefore I made some villages a sub-stub, although I normally do not find sub-stubs very practical. At least they point now to the municipality, and contain a small bit of additional info. I do not mind having them merged with the municipalities if the redirects are restored (see also Wikipedia:Substub#Merge_it).--Patrick June 28, 2005 13:42 (UTC)
Alternatively I have made some soft redirects. A link to a soft redirect can look different using the stub feature. See also Redirect and/or link to non-existing page.--Patrick June 28, 2005 22:52 (UTC)
[edit] Links to villages
Now that the lists of villages have links, I recommend:
- bold those which lead to additional info (see e.g. [1])
- if the village page is a redirect, link with "redirect=no", or link to its edit page
- do not delete the redirects, they are useful too

[edit] Tracking changes
I made Template:Albrandswaard, mainly to track the changes in the articles on the municipality and its parts, and using the new Related Changes enhancement (all recent changes to linked pages are shown, not just the last one for each page). We could do that for all municipalities.
I used {{divbox|amber||..}} but applied subst twice to avoid that Related Changes shows changes in Template:Divbox and Template:Divstyleamber.

[edit] Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team cooperation
Hello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? If you do, please post your suggestions at the listing of all active Places WikiProjects, and if you have any questions, ask me in the Work Via WikiProjects talk page or directly in my talk page. Thanks a lot! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 18:35, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Antilles?
Currently, the pages for Bonaire, Curaçao, and Saba have raw-HTML infoboxes (Sint Eustatius and Sint Maarten have nothing currently). Should the Dutch municipalities infobox be used on these pages, or the country infobox, or something else? Epastore 03:48, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not a project member, but I have been keeping up with the Antilles. As of 2007-07-01, Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius will be municipalities, and in theory, subject to this project. Curaçao and Sint Maarten will, I guess, use the county t/p after 2007-07-01. - Thanks, Hoshie 04:45, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Kessel (Limburg)
The municipality template had incorrectly linked to Kessel in Belgium. I made a short article for Kessel in Limburg but didn't translate the history section from the Dutch article. If anyone wants to translate it, thanks. Rmhermen 18:00, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- The article "Kessel" (which you moved to Kessel, Belgium was about the Dutch town; but someone replaced it with the Belgian town in August... I'm trying to split the history of the article now. Eugène van der Pijll 20:52, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Project directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 17:16, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 21:36, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Talk:Dietsland#Requested_move
Could I get some help from you guys on this requested move? Some people want to move it to Greater Netherlands, which looks like a valid move to me, but some others have replied that this is not correct, albeit with some very confusing arguments. If anyone could come and comment on the move, it would be greatly appreciated. -Patstuarttalk|edits 01:26, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Help needed on Fanny Blankers-Koen
This article is very close to retaining its featured status on review, but there are a few citations needed, which can probably be found in some of the Dutch sources listed in the article. Can someone please help? Thanks.
Fanny Blankers-Koen has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:42, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Suggestion: Infobox City
Is this group aware of the template {{Infobox City}}? Infobox City contains almost all of the fields used in the NL municipality templates plus a lot more. For example, here is how the box for Eindhoven would look (extra information taken from other language wikis). Just a thought. - 52 Pickup 10:46, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

- Good idea. It doesn't convert "cleanly", because of missing coordinates and other small incompatibilities, but I was planning a bot run to update populations; I will convert them to the Infobox City template at the same time. -- Eugène van der Pijll 17:37, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, it doesn't cleanly convert. One major thing that will need to be done is the removal of commas from some numerical fields (eg. population and density in this example), otherwise you get error messages for the conversion to Imperial units. The combination of the mayor and his/her party into one field is another matter, but perhaps that is a change that could be sugggested for the Infobox City template. Maybe, before conversion, I'll see what can be done on the Infobox City end, could you test it out and catalog all potential problems that conversion may cause? That should make the change a bit smoother. - 52 Pickup 20:43, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
