Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Calendars/Poll
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Abstract: Wikiproject Calendars must have a standard format throughout each calendar year article. The format must be simple and elegant.
Question: Should the date numbers of each day on the calendar have a hyperlink to its respective article (like in Calendars of 2006 or should they be left plain (like in Calendars of 2005)?
The poll will close on October 21.
[edit] Each day should have a date number link
- I feel that the linking to everyday doesn't significantly distract from the focus of this project, which is too provide a grid like calendar with major holidays listed on it. I belive that this feature actually enhances the project and is in line with the wiki philosophy. I made the calendar for 2006 with each of the links for a personal wiki after I came across the 2005 calendar. I have similar linked pages for 2005 but didn't feel like I should alter 2005 too significantly, without first testing the waters with 2006. Honestly it doesn't matter to me either way, I'm going to continue to make the calendars in the 2006 style for my page, if someone wants to edit them to remove the links to everyday, feel free, I've already got what I need for my site, I only posted them here to share. --Paughsw 03:03, 27 August 2005 (UTC)
- It gives a simple and quick link to more information about that day.--Terry 16:43, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
- Its usefull and doesnt detract form the look Ravedave 19:49, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
- I think having the links there makes things easier to use.Elipongo 04:49, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, cool, I've just been scrounging around trying to find a good page to find holidays and info by calendar and this would help considerably. It doesn't take up any extra space and it's quite useful. Elf | Talk 22:04, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
What if we make the date numbers bold, so people don't get confused and the dates don't get overlooked. For example, in October 2005 there are so many holidays that the date is barely noticed. If the dates are bold, they might be easier to notice. --Munchkinguy 03:24, 15 October 2005 (UTC) numbers now bolded in 2006 --Paughsw 04:23, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Each day should be plain without a date number link
- I feel that linking everyday would be overkill. If you want to go to the page of that day, use the month link and then the calendar in the month page. Holidays etc. that are shown in the calendar should be linked. Karl
[edit] Proposed compromise
- Perhaps Holidays can still be linked separate and have a link to each day as well. I believe that this would be a good compromise. --Paughsw 03:27, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
- Please elaborate. --Munchkinguy 01:11, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
If you look at the way the 2006 calendar is done, there are actually two links for each day which has a holiday, one link to the day (by clicking the number) one link to the holiday by clicking the holiday name. This is what I mean by my compromise. --Paughsw 23:01, 15 September 2005 (UTC) In other words keep the links to everyday but also link to the holidays seperately --Paughsw 00:33, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

- That's what I meant when I referred to Calendars of 2006 in the Poll Question. --Munchkinguy 03:38, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I misunderstood. Then, I feel that the style of the 2006 should be kept, and if there are no objections, that this poll be closed.--Paughsw 19:25, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
