Wikipedia:Wikieternity
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Wikieternity refers to a seemingly endless period of time (such as 24 hours or a week) on Wikipedia. Wikitime naturally seems to move slower than ordinary time, because
- The Wikipedia grows exponentially; and
- Users, accustomed to nearly instanteous control over articles, can get impatient about works in progress.
The time required for a copyvio resolution, a page move request, a request for adminship, or a contested vfd can often seem like a Wikieternity to the users involved. A 24-hour block paradoxically seems to last an eternity to the Wikipediholic, and thus powerfully deters most vandalism.
