Wikipedia:WikiProject tennis/Grand Slam Project

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grand Slam project is an attempt to create a page for every grand slam draw ever. As a first step, we've created a draw page for every men's singles grand slam in the Open Era.

[edit] Data Sources

For the Open Era, there are many online sources of information:

  • ATPTennis.com, the official site of the ATP Tour. They have HTML draws for all of the open-era men's slams. You have to dig around a bit to find them, but here's an example: [1]. Note that it only renders correctly in Internet Explorer.
  • tenniscorner.net, which has archives available here. They mislead you into thinking that they don't have historical draws (e.g. by clicking "Grand Slams" then "Past Winners" from the main page), but if you go through "Men's Singles" and "Archived results" you'll get them. Their brackets differ slightly from ATPTennis's, but not so little that I think they're copies.
  • Roland Garros (offical site), which has PDF draws going back to 1925, the year the tournament opened to international competition. Unfortunately, it's the only slam site with this feature.

The Amateur era closes with the 1968 Australian Open, and the Open Era begins with the next tournament, the 1968 French Open. The Australian Open was held in December from 1977 to 1985. Hence there were two Australian Opens in 1977 and none in 1986.
