Wikipedia:WikiProject Warhammer 40,000/ArmiesAndSpecies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page is a basic layout guide for articles on playable races in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. This layout is designed to address one of (from where I stand) the more worrying problems frequently encountered with 40k articles... that there is not enough focus on the 'reality' of the subject, and too much on the 'fiction'.

The main premise of this gudieline is that each article should be divided into two major sections; "Fictional perspective" (to deal with the race as it exists in the 40k universe), and "Player perspective" (to deal with the race as a series of models and rules that combine to play a game).

See Tau (Warhammer 40,000) as an example of this layout in action.

NOTE: This layout is still in the development stage, and will likely change in the immediate future!

Usage

Any of the subheadings may be dropped or replaced by a more appropriate one, the layout below is just an example.

Contents

[edit] Article Heading

Introduction of the subject goes here. Sum up the subject, in roughly equal parts dealing with the fiction and the reality.

[edit] Fictional perspective

Template:Infobox Warhammer 40,000 Governments goes here if applicable.

[edit] History

History of the race up until the 41st millennium.

[edit] Physiology

Biological specifications of the race.

[edit] Society

Culture, government, beliefs, astrographical location. Use subheadings if necessary.

[edit] Warfare

Add a link to the most closely associated "Weapons, Equipment..." list here.

Tactics and style of warfare, as given by the background material only! Players ideas on how the army should be played don't belong here.

[edit] Player perspective

[edit] History and development

When the race was first introduced, when it became playable, information on the changes over the time between editions, information on the most recent rules set available.

[edit] Model design

Development of the miniatures, common themes and inspirations, changes between versions. Source it!

[edit] Appeal to Players

Why the hell should Johnny What-The-Fuck's-A-Bolter? use this army?

[edit] Notable characters

See Wikipedia:WikiProject Warhammer 40,000/Notability.

[edit] Other sections

Examples of the need for another section would be to link to articles on subdivisions of the group, discrepancies between different media (such as between the game and the books), list of appearances in a certain media, etc. Common sense, kiddies.

[edit] References

Duh!

[edit] External links

Should be obvious. Best one to include would be a link to the primary Games-workshop.com page for the race. Please use the UK website, as the game (and therefore these article) should be UK-centric.
