[edit] Past Proposals for Intro and Article Structure

We have really come to a good place in our conversation on the Intro, and Fergie has outlined a starting point, which I have moved to its own page Wikipedia:WikiProject Waldorf Project-Archive Proposed Starting Place for ongoing reference. I would like to suggest that we first agree fully on our structure above - or adapt a new strict structure - before moving on to consider either of these. I propose that we split this into first the intro and then the article structure. We have now agreed on the project structure (see main Wikipedia:Wikiproject Waldorf project page for refernce) Wonderactivist 16:07, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Introduction

Proposed wording (This is a starting place based on our very lengthy conversation in the archives and can only apologize if I have missed or misunderstood some points. I have made a lot of edits based in the comments there and expect this to change and invite comment on the attached discussion page.Wonderactivist 18:03, 26 September 2006 (UTC))

Waldorf education (also called Steiner education) is a holistic approach to teaching which seeks to maintain a balance between

  • academic work which integrates curriculum across various subjects & the arts;
  • spiritual growth through teaching reverence, community involvement, and encouraging creativity;
  • coordination of mind and body through practical & physical activity.

Clearly-defined stages in child development and a belief in the child's incarnating soul manifest into distinct educational phases.

Waldorf education originated in the educational ideas of Rudolf Steiner and his "spiritual science," Anthroposophy. Often characterized by proponents as education of the "head, heart, and hands," it is practiced worldwide in schools, homeschools, and special education environments.
